Keane eyes Giovani swoop

Mexican touted for return to club.

Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane is hoping to bring Tottenham midfielder Giovani Dos Santos back to the club on loan until the end of the season.

The Mexican - who has made just two Premier League starts for Spurs - scored four goals in eight games while on loan at Town last season and Keane wants to bring the player back to the club for a second spell.

The 20-year-old joined Harry Redknapp's side 18 months ago from Spanish giants Barcelona in a £4.7m move but has struggled to force his way into the first team at White Hart Lane.
And Keane admits he would like to have the playmaker back in the ranks at Portman Road, as his side look to continue their recent recovery and mount a late surge towards the Championship play-off places.

"Gio is probably too good a player for the Championship but I'd love to have him back here," Keane said in the The People.

"Harry Redknapp is willing to let him go out on loan again and I think he's changed his phone number because I've been ringing him so much lately.

"If I could talk to the boy I'm confident I could sell Ipswich to him."

He has already stated that he doesn't believe it is possible - so I would be surprised if it happened.

I also think part of our problem in the past is that we have brough young players like Gio (and Bostock, etc) and expected, and talked about, them making an immediate impact in the first team. Most of them just haven't been ready for it. Compare it with the Whinger at teh ArseScum has done it. Now 'Arry is doing it the sensible way, and it has to be that they are unwanted. He did it with Danny Rose yesterday, giving him a taste i an already won game for 8 minutes, or so, and already I am reading posts that he didn't 'do enough'

Quite sad really that Barca managed to find the lad more game time than we have given how important success is to them in terms of managers keeping their job. If he's worth hanging on to then I think we need to find him some opportunities to get on the pitch - in which case can we not find an EPL home for him on loan if Harry thinks we he's not quite ready and so can't risk giving him pitch time when we're hunting a top-4 spot?

I would love this to happen. Pompey has got our players playing well in the past so it could be just what he needs. Just think the Gangsta is Pompey's Jewell according to their fans!!

If they aren't allowed to re-sign O'Hara on loan, how are they supposed to sign Giovani?

As Chris has explained (two posts above yours) Pompey are appealing agains tthe transfer ban, and specifically inreagrd to loan deals. I believe this is mentioned in the article...that it is contingent upon having the embargo overturned.

I'm saddened that he's not making the bench but Rose and Bentley are

I'd like him to replace Bentley as our next option on the wings

I just do not understand why we would put Bentley and Pav on the bench when we are obviously trying to ship them out this window? It would seem like they are just taking up space for players who are staying and should be given a chance on the bench - This would also mean to me that Gio is definitely NOT in Harry's plans! As was said, we had trouble breaking them down, so someone like Gio would have been perfect, but I guess Harry thinks not, so.........

Bentley is a proven premiership player. What exactly has Dos Santos done?? I really don't understand all the people that rave about players such as Dos Santos and Taarabt who have never played well enough in training or games to command a place in the first XI yet you'll slate half the team for being poor and single out the likes of Jenas, Keane and Bentley for being "not up to scratch". Grow up and stop playing fantasy football or whatever silly computer game that makes you think you know how good our players are. Those in the team and on the bench are the players that have impressed the manager (a person far more qualified than you even if you did win the champions leage with the Doncaster Belles!). IF Dos Santos was good enough to be in the squad he would be. Yes we got him from Barca and yes he played a few games for them but those games were at the end of a season they had walked in the league and to be honest if they thought he was any good they wouldn't have sold him would they!!?

Gio wouldn't have made a difference against Hull. He's never made a difference against anyone.

Bentley haven't proven shit for Spurs. Have you really missed that  Looking at what he cost he might even be the biggest flop in our history. I supported him longer than most on here last season but now he's just a waste of space.

Last time i checked Barca have sold players like Eto'o and Ronaldinho. Shite players DOESN'T get to play for Barca A ever....get it?!?! Feck, we even got a lesson by Barca C this summer. Does that say you anything when it comes to talents..?

I'm sorry you've missed the talent of Gio and since you doesn't seem to know any international football no one will be able to help you.

The last bit is just so dumb and narrow-minded that it gets embarrassing reading it

StanSpur....YOU appear to be the BS Sprouter (sadly, I fear) because Gio is a quality, if misguided, player who's only crime seems to be his nationality! Ask a Mexican what they think about him and you will begin to see the light! COYS!

Were not going to have another GDS is a world beater thread are we? Please say it isnt so.

While I have no doubt that GDS has bags of "potential" and natural ability (mainly speed and touch) if Harry hasn't put him on the bench there is a reason, whether he isn't applying himself in training or his attitude there is a reason. I really hope he does get his chance and that when he does he takes it and goes on to fullfill his potential.

You cant seriously be comparing Eto'o and Ronaldinho to GDS are you?

Eto

2004-2009 BARCA 145 (108 goals) Last transfer swap with Ibrahamovic

Roni

2003 -2008 BARCA 145 (70 goals) Last transfer £15 million BARGIN

GDS

2007-2008 BARCA 26 (3 goals all in 1 match) Last transfer potentially £8.6m

GDS has had a loan spell at Ipswich where he did well, now that was for Ipswich...... We are forth and possibly poushing for 3rd we dont have time to bring GDS in. As I said I would love him to develop and become a world class player but we need to trust our team managment and coaches. If he was impressing in training he would get his chance there is no doubt in my mind.

Against Hull Myhill simply had an outstnading game, we could have played another 1/2 and it would have been 0-0 nothing to do with tactics or strikers efforts he simply played a blinder.

What is embarrassing is your grasp of the english language mate!

Just because Bentley hasn't played well for Tottenham you cannot deny that he has played well in the Premiership. At Blackburn he was good enough for Spurs, along with others, to pay big money to get him - yes it hasn't worked because Lennon has been too good and Bentley's attitude has, if reports can be trusted, not been up to scratch.

Gio does have talent, i wouldn't argue with that. But talent doesn't always make you a good player. Quoting that Barca have sold Eto'o and Ronaldinho is a bit daft considering that they had attitude issues with eto'o and got Ibrahimovic in his place (not a bad solution) and as for Ronaldinho, he has passed his best long before they got rid of him and now just plays average at best with a slight hint of brilliance, but nothing worth keeping at the best team in the world. Barca have always regarded the younger Dos Santos as the real talent and he has now got minutes under his belt for the first team and by all accounts looks very promissing - if they sell him this summer then i'll take your point about selling us Gio.

I do look at international football and have seen Dos Santos play for Mexico but international and domestic football are two very different beasts. The tempo and shape of the games are in complete contrast and therefore make a huge difference to the way players play. Technically gifted players often perform far better in international matches due to the time and space often awarded to them. How often have we seen a player emerge as the next big thing in a world cup or the euros and then never heard much of them again, or at least little positive? Too often.

In my opinion, and i am allowed it, there are too many supporters who think about what could be and miss what is actually happening. Spurs are doing well this season, we are more competitive than we have been in years. We have a better squad than i can remember in the 20+ years i've been supporting the club and we have a manager who is able to get more out of them than the previous couple. Why do we have to look at a kid who has NEVER played well for Tottenham, who was not that impressive at Ipswich and think that he is the answer to a prayer that doesn't exist?

Sorry to have upset you so much, but really support the whole team for once and stop all this idiotic selective support. You follow Tottenham not players 1, 23, 7, 6, 14 etc..
