Great defensively - covers so much ground, wins a lot of duels and is powerful. But to say that he is a powerful defensive midfielder would do him a huge disservice.

Very forward thinking with his passing, carries the ball really well yet put ins all defensive efforts too, strong, fantastic engine - a real quality all round central midfielder.

He does look quality. Has an explanation been offered up for why noone else has wanted him when he seems relatively cheap?

The fee isn’t horrendous in the scheme of transfer fees - but I imagine a lot of big money deals are over extended payment terms/creative financials Currently due to financial uncertainties with Covid etc. I believe that when activating a release clause you pay the whole lump up front (I may be wrong), and coupled with large wages it may not have been deemed sensible or even an option for many.

Looking at the positives, he's already 27 so it's not like their midfield is going to be built around him for the next decade (like say us with Ndombele).

If he comes in and is amazing then fair play, but in 3 years time he'll be the wrong side of 30 in a position where fitness and energy are paramount.
