Sky Sports: Everton forward Theo Walcott is close to agreeing a loan move to Southampton. We understand the clubs will split his wages, paying 50 per cent each.

Queen of the South Manager: The trouble is, the team are just too nicey-nicey. Get me someone different.

Queen of the South Director of Football: I know just the player.

Why would there be any negotiations? They just need to activate his release clause
And what they’d do is give the money to the player to pay the clause. All in one installment, so 45 mil at once or nothing. However, they can obvs try to negotiate a lower fee with atleti, but they’ve said release clause or nothing all window.

Which they don’t have the money to do.

If they couldn’t afford to sign Aouer they most definitely don’t have enough money to put 50 million down (not on structured payments either) for Partey.

Arsenal and United really mugged themselves off this window. Of course there were going to be teams who are struggling financially but they basically picked some of the worst ones in Lyon, Atlético, and Dortmund to try and play financial hard ball with.

Those clubs are very well run and weren’t going to get railroaded. They gave the price, said it was non negotiable and yet United and Arsenal thought it would suddenly change on deadline day. Now they’re left scrambling.

Would surprise me too but their reliable journos have all said they’ve made a move, and the only move they can make is to pay the full RC.

This new attempt for Partey feels very Spursy. It feels like what we used to do on Deadline day where we can say 'we tried'
