I'm not sure Royal was that terrible. Worst players for me were Skipp, GLC, Perisic and Solomon.I think he trusted his players, I’m not sure he will again.
Im not talking Sanchez or Davies, who I expect he knows about but the likes of GLC, PEH and Royale really did them selves no favours tonight.
Isn’t that pretty much what Ange did in making NINE changes to the starting 11?
They do deserve a chance but not all at once away to premier league opposition if you have the aim of winning the competition. Next round maybe full rotation against Port Vale or some low level team could suffice. In this game make 5 changes max and maybe you can even sun on a few more of the squad options.I can understand most of the rotations even though we're not in Europe - players deserve the chance to show that they are worthy of a place in Ange's new system and they need game time to convince them to stay at the club and avoid getting demoralised. However - one rotation I absolutely don't understand was taking out Vicario. He is new to English football and needs game time, you shouldn't be rotating your goalkeeper, and whilst Forster made some good saves in the game he was atrocious in the shootot - I can't help but think if we'd had Vicario in goal for that we'd have gone through.
Hopefully also gives a bit of a warning sign to both Ange and Levy in the final days of the window. We've got an exciting young first XI. But our backup is the same old shit as before. More quality is needed.
Seriously? That’s your take away from this?We would've had six more games to win, so it's not exactly like we were *so close*.
Have to love his technique of just collapsing in the goal thoJust saw the highlights. How bad is Forster at penalties!
I’ve not seen a worse performance in a shootout. It’s quite hard to come out of one a villain as a keeper but he managed it. Unfortunate as he made some decent saves beforehand.Just saw the highlights. How bad is Forster at penalties!
My takeaway is we lost on penalties to a good PL team that just got a draw at the Emirates. It happens.Seriously? That’s your take away from this?
No, not of a cup run, just of where we currently are.unrealistic expectation for a cup run? says it all
how much more evidence does anyone need that this second string is completely useless? How many more completely winnable cup ties must we lose before the penny drops
FFS, rotate in a league game if you really need evidence of how below par our back up Players are. But for just one season as an experiment can we just try and win a trophy like we used to in the olden days.
Before I was 21 I had seen us win two UEFA cups and 3 FA cups. But in the last 32 years i have seen us win just two lousy league cups, and notjhing for 15 years
Playing Sanchez also felt pointless to me. Not that he was awful defensively, but why break the CB partnership you're trying to build up?I can understand most of the rotations even though we're not in Europe - players deserve the chance to show that they are worthy of a place in Ange's new system and they need game time to convince them to stay at the club and avoid getting demoralised. Sorry mate, but this is NOT in hindsight - as soon as that team came out myself and I reckon tens of thousands of spurs fans KNEW with certainty what was coming. I knew, just as I did when Conte announced the team for sheff Utd game last season.Easy to say in hindsight I suppose. But at the very least i'd have kept the CB pairing and put Vicario in goal (who needs to adapt to the league as quickly as possible) even though during the 90 mins Forster was decent. I get why Lo Celso started, but perhaps another risk was swapping out both of the other CMs.
Maybe it’s not the managers are dictating the approach? Other clubs of similar stature rotate and also tend to put in flat performances. I think it’s just the nature of football now, the league and European qualification is seen as more important by club hierarchies.I hope Ange truly regrets this - but I am just pessimistic that managers we get for another 10 years will learn this.
Totally agree mate and the way I see it it’s our lack of quality depth back-ups in some areas that is mostly the issue rather than Ange rotating so much.I think the big problem first half is essentially we had a midfielder 5 of Gio, PEH, Skipp, Royal and Davies. That’s 4 players who are technically limited and not particularly comfortable with the ball at their feet in advanced positions with maybe the exception of Skipp. Gio was the only player who is more comfortable on the ball and he ended up looking completely isolated by Perisic and Solomon sitting so wide and the tactical limitations behind him resulting in him looking lost and completely ineffective a lot of the time. Even the second half after the subs came on we didn’t particularly improve. Fulham lost steam but even Son, Kulu and Maddison played a number of misplaced passes and couldn’t take hold of the home.
In general this was a tactical mess with too many limited players starting resulting in an off balanced line up that was easily shut down. The only time we maybe looked better in ether half was more down to our superior fitness then us playing better.
