Well Defoe should be there instead of Rooney or even Crouch who has been in good form for Stoke lately. Heck even Andy Carroll should be given a chance, he has not turned into a bad player, he just needs the right service.

As for midfield, well yes we know what Carrick can do but he should be rewarded for his good performances and given a chance to prove himself again for England. Plus I would much rather Parker had a rest unless of course he will be the new captain.

As for left back, I agree it is hard to think of an English left back who has been better than Cole despite him having an off season but surely the U21 or U18 squad has a LB that we consider good? Even just to give them a bit of a confidence boost being in the squad, it is likely that Baines will play but the experience of being around a squad of talented players would be a good one for any youngster.

I would have picked or considered instead of the bigger named players:

Oxlade, Defoe, Crouch/Caroll, Nathan Dyer, Scott Sinclair and maybe Caulker.

I guess Danny Graham could have gotten a surprise call up too, after all we are not blessed with the most amazing strikers in the world. Might have given us a different option, he seems to have a good finish on him.

Expect? No-one. It's exactly as expected. Sadly he is picking some players based on reputation rather than ability.

Other than Walcott out and Oxlade-Chamberlain in, who else would you like to see in the squad?

Really don't think there are that many options.

We really have got a nothing team aint we! Downing....??? Walcott....??? I would pick Oxlade-Chamberlain over them a million times over! He has 0 goals & 0 assists this season!

I also would have picked Nathan Dyer & Scott Sinclair over them! Why would 'Arry want part of that? Stay at Tottenham!

The only change I'd make is Lennon for Walcott to be honest.

I'm surprised to see Downing there, but understand why the Ox hasn't been picked.

I'd probably not have picked Rooney either and gone for someone like Carroll (maybe even defoe), but Rooney will go with the england team even though he is banned for the first team, there is no better player in english football in that position currently.

Sturridge and Welbeck could be a lethal partnership, but also quite similiar players.

Looking forward to seeing the young'uns go for it, with Gerrard captain.

How many games has Oxlade played? Surely this is just a bit early for him? Pearce said that he wants to give him game time with the under-21's ratehr than just give him a 10 minute sub appearance with the senior squad which is fair enough.

Agree that Downing shouldn't be in there - may-be Sturridge might get a chance on the wing instead of him. Lennon is a bit unlucky not to be there, but I guess he's missed a few games recently.

Presumably that means Oxlade-Chamberlain won't be going to the Euros as this would have been the best (only?) chance to try him out against the level of opposition we'll be coming up against. Instead we'll just have to put up with Walcott running up blind alleys and giving the ball away, as usual.

Campbell's probably in there on the strength of Pearce knowing him from the u21s - I doubt he'll be more of a 'who the fuck else have we got?' pick, a la Chris Armstrong.

You could argue Defoe not being a regular for Spurs counts against him, but he's scored more than Bent and only one less in the PL than Sturridge and Welbeck. I'd agree that Danny Graham would have been a good shout, Lennon's not exactly set the world alight recently but has still been better than Walcott, Sinclair would have been a decent option too...

Has he picked the same Frasier Campbell who came here on loan and spent the whole season falling over on his arse.

Pearce is a half witted numpty and should never be let near our national team.He has the credentials to manage Stoke, Stevenage and Wimbledon, not England.. It's a fucking farce from top to bottom

He's been a pretty good U21 manager, from what i understand, so i can see why they plumped for him for the 'lympics (it being a mostly youth squad), but i'll leave the jury out until i see how they perform against Holland. I might not agree with his team selection, but i certainly won't write him off yet.

No he's picked the Frasier Campbell who's come back from injury and played pretty well. Certainly much better than when he was at Spurs.

That's a bit like saying has he picked the same Chris Smalling who was playing non-league football 4 years ago...not really a fair criticism.

Sinclair really should have been in with a shout, he's been top notch. Previous posters are right, it's reputation over form.

I assume you mean either Dyer or Britton. Dyer maybe deserves a shot at the squad but I think he's at about the same level as Jarvis (who everyone wanted in the squad recently). As for Britton, he's hardly one for the future and I think questions would be raised of a player getting their England debut at the age of 30.

Sad as it seems, I don't think there's that many better England players out there than the ones in that squad. Any changes wouldn't make it significantly stronger.

I cant see why the likes of Downing (crap), Walcott (ditto), Johnson (Richards and Walker have been better than him, why do we need a 3rd RB?), Bent (Not good enough) Green (No explanation needed), Cahill (An average PL player, IMO Owen Coyle's greatest achievement is to convince the wider public that this guy is actually any better than that), Campbell (Needs to show some form for more than 2-3 games) and Young (Good August, been mediocre for the rest of the season) are in this squad.

Would much rather have seen some younger, or more unfashionable names given a chance to stake a claim.

If you play with one up top IMO Bent cannot be that man. His link up play is abysmal and he can't hold the ball up. Would feel more confident with Welbeck who has the skills to pay the bills.

He had the chance to make a real statement by NOT picking players. Personally I would not have selected:
Robert Green (West Ham United)
Gareth Barry (Manchester City)
Stewart Downing (Liverpool),
Adam Johnson (Manchester City),
James Milner (Manchester City)
Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
Darren Bent (Aston Villa)

Either because they are off form or because they do not play enough first team football to be selected I would drop them. Perhaps if he had the balls to do that a few of the players would stop looking for an easy ride and the cash and look at themselves a little harder.
