I really think we should keep Adebayor next season. While he struggled to show any sort of form last season, I firmly believe (if given the chance) he will come good again and make a decent contribution for us. There should be plenty of opportunity for him to get game time with Europa and other cup games to take into account, and if he is used wisely by AVB and sufficiently motivated so that he feels part of things, (which seems to be one of AVB's strong points) we might all be glad come the end of the season that we didnt let him go to Besiktas or some other club.

so how many goals should he of got when he only had a total of 35 chances in 25 full matches?

surely if he only had 35 chances to score, just over 1 chance a match, which backs up my argument he never got the service.

apart from the shoot out in EL i honestly don't know of a game where Ade could of been blamed of missing a chance that cost us points.

if Bale wasn't so accurate out of the box, he wouldn't have an 80m tag over his head, ok he would still be worth a lot more.
He missed a sitter early on in the game away to QPR iirc which he should have buried.

ok so i did't remember him missing a sitter against QPR, though i do remember it now missing the chance though it was a chance that needed alittle quicker reflexis, but my argument is if a Striker is going to score goals he needs the service, and the season before he had Bale crossing (due to new role, never put many crosses in). Lennon crossing, Modric and VdV feeding balls into the channels. This season he spent most of the time having to watch Bale, Defoe, Dempsey and Sig shoot when they had the ball.

Andy Cole when he played for Man U had a great scoring record, but he still took on average 6 chances a match to score a goal.

every sport really ='s if your confident your preform better, but if your not getting the right practice in actual match situations your confidence will suffer

In short that is just not that case I'm Afraid. For a start I remember him contributing to plenty of moves and being integral to the build up of our attacks which stats don't always measure.

We could well do with someone like you cite in your last sentence but personally I think that's a load of baloney attempting to minimise the impact and influence Adebayor had in his first season. He was excellent.

Well the facts remain the bulk of his goals and assists came in just 7 games. You can argue about impact siting deep and linking up with midfielders but then it's fair to say if you are praising him for sitting deep so often it somewhat underlines why people criticise him for not being where you expect your main striker to be-in and around the box

Personally I think all this being an integral part of the build up is a load of baloney we had the likes of Modric, VDV , Bale and Lennon that season to be the players building up the attacks but far too often Ade wasn't where he needed to be to finish off the attacks build up. When you play a lone striker you actually want that striker getting on the end of the attack build up, not sitting deep or running down the flank

Personally I think despite his goals and assists his impact was limited, first as said the bulk of those were in a handful of games and far too often in the other games he wasn't where he was needed. So sorry but I disagree on him being excellent that season, he did indeed have some excellent games but for far too many he didn't deliver what we needed in a striker

Service is a two way street isn't it, if you don't find the spaces and have the off the ball movement to allow the player with the ball to play the pass then you won't get the service, if you are not getting into the box enough then you will find you don't get a great deal of service, if you don't make the effort to actually get to some of the in the box deliveries played to say the near or far post by a winger running at pace and expecting a striker to be making an effort to get there the stats most likely won't put you down as missing a chance but it doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't a chance. When you watch a player like Falcao he is always looking to get in the box to provide an option, he will always have movement in the box to try and give the player with the ball a better target, he will always bust a gut to be first to the ball and he'll always challenge for a high ball despite a comparative lack of height. Now I have absolutely zero idea of the stats of Falcao other than he scores a lot of goals but you only have to look at his work rate, his movement and his desire to see that he is always working to try and help fashion a chance. I really can't say Ade shows those qualities. He might have strengths to his game, as I said on the counter with a ball played into his path and with a run on goal against a light defence he can look the part, sadly we rarely play teams with light defences, although you can describe any win the ball and go forward a counter attack we are more an attacking team than a counter attacking team. now we are looking to play a higher defensive line condensing the play making counter attacking against a lighter more spread defence even harder
To me at the end of the day whether you like Ade as a player or not I just don't see him as his strengths as a striker a good fit for what we need

You prerogative Bazza to disagree....as it is mine with your opinion. Not much point in discussing it further.

We created the second most chances in the League last year(Liverpool created the most), so if Ade only got 35 in 25 full matches, it says more about his movement in getting into goal scoring positions that it does about the service.

Modern strikers cannot only be compared by goals. It is what else they bring to the team that is just as vital, especially in systems that rely on a loan striker. I can give you multiple reasons and arguments why Ade is a better player than Defoe is and why you are wrong about him being "shit", one being his performances in the season before, but they have been rehashed and rehashed. So I will leave you with this; if Ade is shit, as you surmise, how bad must Defoe be for AVB to continuously pick Ade over him?

We most probably had more shots from outside the area than any other team so being in the right spot for the pass doesn't always count. On numerous occasions when players did shoot from outside the area, there was many times when the ball into space would of been the better option.

my only real gripes with Ade is his heading ability, though the last dominant centre forward in the air i can really ever remember in my 40+ yrs was Chivers lol. The other is his body language, especially when it's not going his way, and last season he wasn't happy and I'd expect that to be the service he got. If he never come so deep, he would of hardly touched the ball.

Bale a midfielder who made numerous chances when on the wing had 158 efforts on goal. He only (sorry bout the only) got 21 goals. Defoe had 103 attempts at goal and only (not sorry bout the only) 11 goals.

We all have diff opinions, the only thing a higher % might agree with is if we only get Villa in as a striker, then Ade would be a better option than Defoe in a front 3. If we manage to get another striker that means Ade/Defoe having to be an impact striker, then myself I'd then go Defoe, as Ade is at his worst when being a sub.

You're right about the number of chances he (Adebayor) got, but to be honest, he's picking up the ball far too deep to be effective in the penalty area. If he's supposed to be a top striker he should be doing far more for himself, getting into far better positions to collect the passes which will give him those chances.

He's not a rookie. He's not learning his craft. He's one of the highest paid strikers in the toughest league on the planet and if he can't adapt his game to score more than five goals in 25 matches, he's no more than a passenger.

It's not as if he can't do it. He did it the season previously because he was always in or around the penalty are when the ball came in but for some reason which is beyond me, he decided to 'hide' himself in deeper areas, getting involved with the link-up play where he should be making the same runs up front which got him 18 goals the season before.

So he got 35 chances to score and gave us FIVE goals. I would say any half decent striker of supposed top quality should be giving you a return of at least one goal in three games. I think that's more than fair. The world is full of strikers who don't score enough goals and 99% of them don't earn £170,000 every week.

Every club in the Premiership (who hasn't won it) could give us an endless string of excuses for whay they were unable to do this or that, but unfortunately, it's the final table which is the only thing worth looking at. That's the only thing which gives us the truth.

We are the fifth best team in the EPL yet we won 72 points, our highest ever total. If you compare our goal tally with the teams above us, you'll see our return was pretty embarrassing. To achieve a top three or four place next season we are going to have to score a shedload more goals and keep a much tighter defence. All those teams above us are going to be 'refreshing' and upgrading their squads for the coming season.

If you're happy to trust Adebayor next season to give us his fair share of the goals we're going to need, you're a far braver man than I mate.

Interesting...

Besiktas agree personal terms with Tottenham

Beşiktaş have agreed personal terms with Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor according to Fanatik.

The deal breaker for Adebayor is reported to be the future of Beşiktaş in European competition.

The Black Eagles finished the 2012-13 Turkish Süper Lig in third position however, will not be participating in the Europa League next season after being handed a one-year European competition ban from UEFA.

Beşiktaş have challenged the ruling and are waiting for the outcome of their appeal.

Eagles manager Beşiktaş manager Slaven Bilic recently admitted he would like to see Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor join the club.

"Adebayor is a very talented player, anyone would like him to be a part of their squad," Bilic said speaking to Lig Tv.

The Eagles lack depth upfront, with Hugo Almeida, the injury prone Mustafa Pektemek and recent signing Ömer Şişmanoğlu being the only viable options.

Beşiktaş have also been closely linked with Nigerian international Michael Eneramo.

I'll have to be honest, I'm on the fence about whether he should stay or go. It really does depend who we can get in as a replacement. On his day he's quality, even if he still doesn't provide as many goals as he should. Flipside is that he could easily switch off and is a strange one to predict as to when he's going to play well.

I always did think that it'd be easier to shift him than Defoe, he's a better overall player, IMO. I would've preferred to have shifted Defoe first as if it comes down to deadline day and we've only got one striker in I'd rather the backup be Ade and not Defoe, but then you've got to think of wages too (can't imagine Defoe's is higher than Ade's).

Not sure how I feel about selling him before we get another striker in. Surely now selling clubs will try and hold us to ransom.

Please stay Ade!!! He had an iffy season last year due to injury, ACN and fitness issues. Towards the end of the season, he was in good from and I really think he could play more of a role in our squad than Defoe.
