Watch Levy tear into Hull here.

Wouldn't surprise me if he gets 15 odd million for Dawson and Rose.

He's just the nuts when it comes to this sort of thing lol

(15 might be an exaggeration, but he'd certainly be capable of getting ten for those two)

I want to keep Rose simply because he's a solid option as a back-up and I want Assou-Ekotto as far away from the club as possible.

It would not surprise me if we went for a back 5 next season - it is very fashionable.
Although if you told Rose that it was now not so important he got back to defend,
then I can't imagine he would spent very much time in our half of the field.
Yay! I'm a winger again.

I wouldn't call it a back 5. It's always a 3-5-2 or 3-6-1 for me, as the wing back role is a support role out wide to stretch the play rather than a defensive one. But yes, I get what you mean. He needs more discipline for that role. I think he's certainly got the athleticism for it, and we're a centre back away from being able to make it work, but as you said Rose lacks the defensive discipline and work rate to put in a shift and track back.

I would agree with this, but I think the reason we're getting Davies to compensate for an impending HG loss. I wouldn't be surprised to see us bring in two LB's this window (or Poch thinks he can squeeze worth from BAE for another year or two).

We're going to have three fit CBs?

To be fair when Rose played under AVB we had a strong spine. Hugo, Daws, Verty, Capoue, Dembele, Pauli, Chadli, some big strong units there. Not many teams would have scored through that.

The negative side to that was we hardly ever created chances. We just shot from distance.

He played a couple of decent games under AVB. He wasn't 'fine' by any stretch of the imagination.

And it's not only his footballing prowess, he also seems to me to be a poisonous character

Poisonous how?

Love the fact that all the boy wants to do is play first team football and has stated he would be willing to drop down the table to do so and people take it as being unmotivated.

The amount of stuff that people ignore when it comes to Rose is massive, solely to call him shit and besmirch his character.

Well honestly I can't back that up too much really, I'm just thinking the couple pretty bad red cards he's got, general demeanor ... what was up between him & Parks? & there was another weirdly aggressive scene with someone else too I'm pretty sure last season iirc

Anyway. Just my perception of him which I think is fairly commonly held

I personally feel Danny Rose is becoming a bit of a scapegoat. No he shouldn't be first choice and yes I do want a shiny new left back. But I do feel many fans vilification of him is unjustified. He's still learning the position having played as a winger most of his career. Also having got injured and then having Eriksen (who I love) in front of him, meant he was getting doubled up continously, now even the best players in the world can't mark two people.

If you look at most of our goals coming from the left it was because Rose had the RB and winger to contend with, due in most part to Eriksen not tracking back. I blame neither Rose or Eriksen for this. All the blame goes to nice but dim on that one.

Rose has many faults, distribution, crossing and positional play but he is the current U21 England left back and will only improve with good quality coaching, shipping him out then means we need two left backs a starter and a youth for back up. Why pay for two when we already have the second covered.

Finally (thank god you think after this long and convoluted rant/essay). He may make noises about wanting first team etc, with the cups, Europa and injuries he will play games and I would want our players aiming to start every game at least it shows hunger.

I'm sure my reps will get battered but hopefully you'll see a thought out and balanced argument that Rose is not the complete dog that some say, nor is he our first choice option but a player who can/may/will improve

The End

Can't believe I see people sticking up for the guy after the inept season he had. I really can't bare another season watching the guy stroll back from the opposition half while they are attacking down his side, it really makes me sick. Is it a coincidence that most teams focused their attacks down that side last season? Ok granted he didn't get much protection, neither did benny before him or whipey lee before him, they coped by not being caught out of position and actually got their asses back when needed. Unbelievably lazy player, and from reading some of his quotes from last summer effectively demanding a first team place is just as sickening. Any money we get will be a bonus.
