If he goes, though, we're left with Davies (probably), who everyone is making out to be worse than Rose with the clever use of stats. And possibly Benny, but again, I thought he was on his way. So one full back of indeterminate quality out, one in, and only one full stop. Seems odd to me.

We will certainly need two LB's for next season. Two players for each position except for the keepers and strikers when we will need three.

As soon as Davies arrives Rose will ask for a transfer. He's been very vocal in the past, and does not come across as the type who will get his head down and fight for his place. Having watched him for a season, there is something not quite right with his attitude and I would be delighted to see him depart.....

We should do a deal with Hull like we did with Sunderland a few years back and really pull their trousers down on a few players!

I actually think he'd do really well at Hull. Bruce likes to play 3-5-2 with wing backs lately and he's more suited to that role than as a full back in a 4 man defence. Actually, I say that, but he's still got to improve on his work rate as a wing back has to but a nut to get back and forth. Sometimes he gives up and doesn't bother tracking back. However, he's certainly got the athleticism and energy for the role. He'll do well if he goes there, I'm sure. He needs to be a big fish I think, like at Sunderland, because he's got a bit of a big head on him. I think being a bigger fish in a small pond at Hull will suit him more.

It would not surprise me if we went for a back 5 next season - it is very fashionable.
Although if you told Rose that it was now not so important he got back to defend,
then I can't imagine he would spent very much time in our half of the field.
Yay! I'm a winger again.

Hopefully we sell Rose and bring in Davies and Rojo, I would be very happy with that as Rojo can play both at LB and CD.

rose was fine under avb and whoever sunderland's manager was at the time. six months under tim and he's the worst player in the world.

We won't play 5 at the back as Rose and Walker are poor going forward, there's no way Poch would be stupid enough to rely on these 2 to provide the width. I'm not a fan of Davies but I'm prepared to give him a chance. However, with his lack of pace, he's not going to be troubling the opposition full back too often.

He played a couple of decent games under AVB. He wasn't 'fine' by any stretch of the imagination.

And it's not only his footballing prowess, he also seems to me to be a poisonous character

I really don't want Rose starting next season but I really, really, really don't want us to try and go through a season with just one left-back again. Assuming BAE isn't wanted then if Rose goes we need to sign 2 LBs rather than just one. I think on balance I'd probably keep him as competition. Unless he is a right nobhead to Poch or something.

I think the classic full back role (W formation) in a defensive 5 would suit Walker very well - no forward responsibilities,
and just needs to scamper back from the halfway line.
Dembele can be the right half back, Chadli the left half back, and Daws the Centre half (or Sandro/Capoue).
We would still need another full back (Davies?), as nether Rose nor Vertonghen are suited (nor to their LB roles for that matter).

Then our attacking W (no boring arsey M for me) can have rose left wing, Lennon right, Adebayor the centre forward,
and Eriksen and Paulinho the inside forwards.
Back to the future....

As ludicrous as it sounds now but there was a time when we were clamouring every week to see Rose fit again and in the starting 11.

The only memory I have is us reportedly turning down an £8m bid from Sunderland, much to my annoyance.

probably because he only played four times under avb, we only conceded once and he was decent in all of them. he looked rough under tim but then so did all of our defence, short memories at play here.
