You realise high sprain ankles can take up to 6 months to recover? It all depends on it being a stable or unstable injury.

He will be out for months, and probably 3-4 months before he is fully fit again. I did the same and took 6 months to come back, before doing the other one straight after. Im just unlucky. :(

Forgive my ignorance, but surely a sprain is by its nature a fundamentally 'better' injury (better for want of a better word) to have than a bone break or ligament tears?

Could a sprain keep him out until March?

Yes, a high sprain can keep you out for a long period but it depends on the nature of the sprain. The ankle area is a bit iffy seeing as it is a pain in the arse to fix if it becomes unstable.

Capoue update

Etienne Capoue has this morning (Monday) undergone an MR scan which has revealed the midfielder suffered an ankle sprain against Arsenal on Sunday.

The recent signing from Toulouse was injured after 72 minutes at the Emirates Stadium and was immediately taken to hospital to consult with a Foot and Ankle specialist. Early indications suggest the France international will be unavailable for a period of four weeks.

Spains can be sore for much longer than that, will take some courage to stick his ankle into a 50/50. Good news though, thought it was a fracture!

Two of those first four weeks we are off. Then we play Norwich and Cardiff, where Sandro can more than fill in.

Great news.

You didn't experience Santi falling on your leg, so don't know how you can understand the pain he felt?

Good to hear. Lucky in the sense that the internationals will cover some of this
