Can we take a moment to laugh heartily at Everton?

There's a team of lawyers somewhere in Manchester already browsing which new Range Rover they'll be buying when they get back from their yacht in the Seychelles. You know that they'll be paying top, top dollar to anyone who can make this just a points punishment after the Everton decision.

Writing off this season for a 20+ points deduction and throwing in the towel until next year would be a ridiculous let off and, as pointed out, any retrospective punishment would be nothing more than symbolic in the grand scheme of things. I honestly don't care if they get stripped of titles or whatever, that's done with.

I also expect there'll be a high chance of them getting barred from Europe for at least a year or two which will be a bigger dent, and potentially a transfer ban as well, which would be appropriate.

edit: wrong thread for that, apologies

That has to be one of the more meaningless penalties to apply. Nobody will care. Players, managers, fans, will all know they won, and already celebrated those trophies.

If you want to punish them - its not about taking away what they already have - its about ensuring they don't get any more in the near future.

Blimey - being stripped of their trophies for cheating would be an indelible stain for eternity. It would literally be in the history books.

Nobody reads the history books.

Players/fans have already celebrated, and its not like they care how the tropics were financed.

The moment someone says: "You guys did not win!", it will be met with:

Can you name a single example from history where a national sporting team has been stripped of a title for cheating and the response has been a "shrug"?

Chicago Whitesox were synonymous with cheating around the world in a sport one else plays and they THREW the game rather than win it.

Juventus; Melbourne Storm in Australian Rugby; Lance Armstrong; Ben Johnson...

Forever in the history books with a big fucking asterisk against their names for cheating.

I really think an Everton fan would murder you for saying that. Can you imagine, you and some other two dudes go do a bank robbery. They get most of the money and live the good life. A few years later they both get arrested. A couple of years later, you get arrested and sent to jail for 30 years.....their case is still pending and by all accounts it looks like they will get 12 months probation.

Those two dudes are Man City and Chelsea......................
This is the most Colleen Rooney/Rebekah Vardy post ever

Tbh 10 points is a fairly substantial punishment, what skews it is this season the league has three clubs who aren’t even remotely close to PL level.

So it seems light because actually I think Everton despite being deducted points are likely still favourites to finish above all three promoted clubs.

I think in previous seasons where the quality of the league top to bottom is stronger. Everton are basically saying goodbye at this point. The punishment itself to me is actually a substantial one, it just happens to have fallen right for Everton in the sense it’s more than salvageable.
Exactly.

Say Everton get 40 points.

In a typical season 10 points would send then down guaranteed.

This season 30 points may not even be in the relegation spots

Nothing would give me greater pleasure than Chelsea having a 10 point deduction in 16/17 season

Regarding City and Chelsea.

You have to see this through Levy's eyes.

He gets shit constantly thrown at him for not putting this club at risk by overspending and doing everything to increase investment and income anyway legally possible.

He has sone this for 20 years and played by the book despite the criticism he gets.

Meanwhile, to make his job even more difficult (to appease Tottenham fans with success) he has 2 other club ownership show a total lack of regard for rules and cheat their way to surpassing your club and beating you to trophies.

Especially as these 2 have beaten us to players, trophies and even tapped up our players

Everton would be included in that if they hadn't been so awful and challenged us.

He will not accept this lying down which probably explains Pep's pathetic smear of him.

No harm in stripping them then. Just think of it as a little bit of record keeping.

Levy gets it for not investing in the team at the right times, and for having no football strategy- flip, flop.

He left us short yet again this summer.

Man City and Chelsea should be punished like Everton, only much more seriously. But the latter got just a small fine recently for submitting incomplete evidence, which is akin to not turning up for a mandatory drugs test- and basically getting away with it.

The biggest problem with punishing City however is that Abu Dhabi continues to invest in regeneration in that part of Manchester and in other UK projects which any UK government would not jeopardize. Newcastle has taken on the same significance, and immunity

If I were Everton I would be letting it known, load and clear, if Chelsea and Man City are not dealt with harshly then the PL will be in Court very very quickly.

According to this Guardian article the desicions of the PL commissions that decide on the punishment are final subject to appeal and clubs cannot go to the law courts, in this case the investigating commission was led by David Phillips KC, are Everton going to take him to court ?

I bet the premier league are quaking in their little space boots at Everton threatening them.

So my understanding is that this was clear cut and Everton admitted it.
If 10pts is the standard then it surely has to be much much worse for clubs that have 1) been doing it for longer 2) tries to hide it. The FA must send out a message that this cannot and will not be allowed to happen.

yea, that ain’t gonna happen
