At what point did I mention him

May as well have said, out of interest, how many shots did Bobby Smith get on target in teh 61 cup final.

Where did I say you did.

I was just asking you a question.

Forget about it though, can't be bothered.

Can't we all just agree that Robbie Keane was very good, and now he is very average?

I mean there are plenty of debates, some people call him shit and some people mention he's scored like 120 goals but really we all know that NOW, in this very moment and for ever more he is very average. Surely that makes sense to people who don't like him and people who fucking love him? He's average. He'll score given the game time, but he's not the striker we need anymore.

He's probably still behind crouch and Defoe but I'd say tonights performance puts him ahead of pavlyuchenko as first change. Though he can't play on his own up front so it would have to be in a 4-4-2.

Regardless of whether his goal was lucky or not he still scored it, by hitting the target. Something we'd struggled with up to that point. I think his energy was pretty key in getting us back in it too. Doubtless to many he'll still be shit but I think a fired up keano is only good for our squad.

I voted yes on this one because I think he probably should have started and as captain tonight. Of the players we played he's one of the few, if not the only one, who knows what it means to the fans to play Arsenal.

Would I make him permanent club captain? No, as others have said, he doesn't start enough games for that. Plus, part of me thinks Ledley King should be club captain until he dies.

To be honest I don't think we have a captain at our club and its a big problem that needs to be addressed.

Did any one watched his effort today ?
alongside Ekotto, they were the only two who put 100% until the last second .. no matter what's the score line ..

i think Robbie Keane deserves another go as Spurs captain, to teach some Complacency players like Bassong, Sandro, Lennon etc ..

just wish some players at the club had half of his determination which he had !

Jeez you can drag your crazy views on Sandro in as many threads as you like but nobody is going to agree with you!

And for what it's worth unfortunately Keano isn't good enough for the starting 11 anymore so no point making him captain, even though he's clearly a great leader.

Given a bit of time it seems like Van Der Vaart could have the right kind of spirit to be captain. Always wants the ball, seems to direct the play, fiesty, commited and definately a big personality.

It does raise the whole question of letting a newbie to the squad be captain, but maybe in a year or two if things go well.

I enjoyed his running. Having missed extra time due to Astro television's draconian inflexibility in scheduling, I couldn't comment on that but I did enjoy the second 45 minutes of Keane rapidly chasing after the ball. Usually just after a pass had cannoned into his shins and rebounded for fifteen yards into no mans land. And it didn't stop there. He was only too delighted to commit himself to sliding tackles to win the ball back from these same incidents.

An inspiration in many ways.

Apologies, Rob. You've been a wonderful player but it's like watching Elton John lose both his arms in a tractor accident and play piano with a stick between his teeth at the moment. We all know the potential. We can see you trying your hardest. We want it to be brilliant. But at the end of the day, it's tragically poor.

LOL.

i saw nothing from that post other than just another way to spread some insane keane fan love.

INSANE??? wow WTF. The captain does not have to be the most skilled player, but he surely has to be the most committed to the cause as a minimum requirement without crossing the line and turning it into thuggery.

The team captain has to lead by example. Someone who drags their ass on the field for the entire 90 mins, can not be a good example.

I agree that he worked his b*ll*cks off last night - but for most other games he has been pretty ineffective. I wouldn't have him in my starting line-up for most games so certainly wouldn't make him captain. It was lovely to see the fire in his belly yesterday though and it gave me hope that he may have a role with us.

Unlike Bentley and Dos Santos  (Okay I know we all love Giovanni and he'll have better games I'm sure, but he was pants last night).

glad to see someone understand this ..

yesterday, i think if we have other 3 copies of Keane in replace of Lennon, Bentley & WP/Giovani/Pav .. we could win the game, even thought he isn't any better than. Looks like people don't understand the importance of determination in football.

For this kind of match, definitely. For the first 11 probably not.

I still think he more than keeps up with any of our other strikers (and totally schooled Pav in how to put a shift in last night) but Harry is going to rotate the front four. None of them should be captain in the first 11.

VDV seems like the choice when King isn't available.

If Keane is tragically poor then we probably need to take Gio and Pav out back and put them out of their misery because neither one was in the same ballpark as Keane last night (from either an effort or quality point of view).

Still, the flowery analogy was nice and I would like to see Elton John play piano with his teeth.
