They are looking for long term medical problems, not how well he does in a beep test.

would love it at this stage. He isnt as big a name as others we have been linked with, but in all probability he is more like what we need than the others.
A big powerful striker to lead the line and score goals.

It's amazing what a bit of form over half a season can do for a young English strikers value.
Imagine if you were told in the summer we'd be paying £25m on Andy Carroll in the transfer window.. incredible!

But hey bring it on!

25 million for Carroll or 50 for Torres?

Torres wouldn't be interested in coming to us, so it is irrelevant...

I would go to £30m for Carroll. I know most on here will think it is terrbily over-priced, but I am convinced he will give us an unbelievable competitive edge up front, and our creative players will absolutely feast of his physical intimidation of defenders.

IMO Carroll is not the player we need to take us to the next level. He has had a good first half of the season for sure but is he really worth 23m??

Can I have some of what you're smoking?

I am gutted and hope this rumour is exposed as rubbish soon. Carroll isn't worth half of that money. For all his physicality, drive and ability to poach, e simply has not enough football talent to be a top striker.

Phil Neville, Andy Carroll, Scott Parker... FFS?

Bent had a good couple of seasons in the Premier League under his belt, playing for a side (Charlton) no better than the Barcodes currently are and even though people could argue that he has EPL experience he still ended up being a flop when he transferred to Spurs missing sitters that Sandra could have put away.

Carroll has only being playing 4/5 months in the EPL, and yet somehow he is valued at £23m (according to Spurs' last bid). On the other hand we have a player in Suarez with more experience (ok, not in the EPL, but does that really matter?!?!) whom has just gone to Liverpool for the same amount. I can only assume Suarez just isn't the type of player Harry is looking for now we have VDV. As I doubt it was wages, as I am sure someone that was on 30/40k for Ajax would be happy with 60/70k for Spurs.

Anyway, the main point is what is stopping us buying a player that is proven season in and season out, Champions League & International experience has all the right attributes to succeed in the EPL and is young enough to to hold his transfer value? I really cannot fathom why we would submit a bid for Carroll and not Hulk, this for me really has turned into the Krypton Factor in trying to figure this out.

Surely Hulk is more suited anyway than Carroll to the EPL?!?!

Maybe its all a cunning ploy....if Carroll is worth £23m surely Torres is three times that! We're just trying to screw Chelsea by increasing the market value of strikers!

Usually I feel like we will pull something out of the bag. Not this time on afraid.

I have faith that our strikers are going to pick up form. Maybe Redknapp needs to drop vdv is certain games and start crouch and Defoe.

If Darren Bent is valued at £24 million, then Andy Carrol should be valued at £40 million.

However IMO, DB is worth £10 million and AC £15 million.

Goes to show how transfer fees have continually risen during the years.

Didn't Alan Shearer cost Newcastle £18million from Blackburn?

And he was a far superior striker at that time compared to the still raw and in development Any Carroll (who also has a silly ponytail).

If we've offered Newcastle iro £23m cash, and they've rejected it & want £30m, why don't we just throw in either Niko or Keano who are both surplus to requirements?

I think it was £15m which was a shocking amount at the time, as was Cole to Man U for £7m plus Gillespe before that.

The Dunc Comparison is so lazy, if you actually watch Carroll's goals then Ferguson had neither the skill nor composure to score like that. Carroll scores glanced headers, looping headers, powerful headers where he puts his body on the line. He takes the ball round goalkeepers, he dinks the ball over goal keepers, he poaches at the ends of moves (some of which he actually starts with a pretty decent crossfield pass by the way, like his third v Villa), he shifts and shoots, he hits it from distance, he places the ball into the corner, he scores with his weaker foot too. He had a brilliant array of different types of goal, he is a born finisher.

On top of all of that, he has those great Duncan Ferguson qualities of being able to win everything with his back to goal unless marshalled superbly (thank you Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul), he has more pace than people give him credit for (Certainly more than all of Keane, Crouch and Pav), his first touch is pretty good, especially in the box, and he plays with his head up.

The guy is raw, but there is not one ingredient which he has not shown, and that is in a side who are not particularly good. Surround him with Modric, VDV, Bale and Lennon and you've got a striker of potentially stellar proportions.

Oh, but I fogot, we could find a European player who is just as good for cheaper, couldn't we?
