He's quality, doesn't get the credit he deserves really just because he struggles to get a game at City for obvious reasons... Top player though, rate him very highly and would fit into our system well. Now I rate Lennon very highly but AJ seems to have a bit more about him, certainly a better shot on him... He's a good shout for best English winger/wing forward anyway.

I would be very happy with A Johnson, good strong competition for Lennon with something to prove. I particularly like that it's extra cover for both flanks and the deal should be reasonably priced considering the fees being reported for other players of this caliber.

Would like to have seen him sign, as I think he can cover both flanks. But if he doesn't, am sure AVB has someone else in mind for the job

We can do a lot better. In a way, a bit boring player, I think.

There are better players for sure but all boils down to availability and price .... he is available and although the reported price seems a bit inflated a deal could probably be done if we were to pursue

He's ok, but it would have been a little irresponsible to spend £15 million and offer big wages to someone that's not good enough to start for us.

Signed for Sunderland. Close the thread
That shows why we should not sign a player like that. Sunderland have also completed the over price signing of Fletcher.
People behind these transfers should never be involved in football.

Doubt we'll sign a better player for less money, doing that kind of cash on Willian would be a huge gamble compared to AJ

City fans slated him for not working hard enough, his passing was poor, often took a shot when a pass was better option or vice versa (i.e. decision making not that great). He does score from out wide but we've already spent £16m on a player with very similar characteristics (all be it a little slower but did his best work with players half the quality of Johnson). Not worried we've not gone for him.

Really no point signing a player just because he is available though, especially for such a lot of money. We'll only get better by buying players of better quality even if we are desperate to sign players (obviously in some situations we aren't going to be able to buy better players such as a replacement for Modric).
