Would much prefer to spend the money on him as opposed to someone like Sturridge.

16 million is high though, no doubt about it.

10-12 million would sit a little better.

Caught Offside are suggesting that Liverpool are after Adam Johnson and looking at around £16m for his services. Obviously no indication of how true the story or the price is but surely at that price and if available Spurs should also take an interest? He would be a perfect addition in my opinion as he would cover both wings and certainly push, if not replace, Lennon.
Spend more than we did on Modric and what would probably be a big chunk of our transfer budget on Johnson? Just no.

Massive wages and can't see him wanting to swap city bench for ours, cracking player but don't see it happening

Leaving money to one side, would he be someone who could do a job and give more genuine wing options?

Dont like Vdv out on the wings.

Dont see Townsend and GDS as long term solutions.

PS It goes without saying we would have to stop him "falling over" a little.

Would be a good addition but he said he wants to move to get first team football, wouldn't be guaranteed that here imo

Hi Steve! It's Jeff from The Odyssey. Really glad I've caught up with you mate. You keep those DVD's coming and there's no end to the Pear Cider :) (private joke)

Regarding Adam Johnson, yes I think he'd be a great signing but there'd probably be a few obstacles along the way.

Firstly, like Ade, he's on huge wages which he may or may not wish to halve for a move to another club, even one who'll offer him more regular football and secondly, I would hate to upset Aaron Lennon of whom I'm a massive fan.

He needs cover, no doubt about that, but Johnson wouldn't come simply as cover to anyone.

I've been talking about him for a while. He's wasted at City.

Yah, he could be one of the preeminent english players of his generation but he'll need to play regularly and take on more responsibility - won't happen at City. If and when we lose Bale, he could really step into that breach.

I don't think that is accurate sorry. He hasn't been given the chances granted, but when he has done he's hardly impressed. He's lazy, fairly slow and only decent in and around the box. All the talent in the world without the work ethic to back it up.

Is he notoriously lazy? And with regards to being decent around the box i'd wager that's what we need right now.

And yet I watched a lot of their games last season and he almost always made an impact and dug them outta a lot of holes.

In regard to the attitude bit, I am not sure how much of that is chicken and how much egg: he looked pretty decent when he first went there, but it became clear that no matter how well he played he wasn't really going to get much chance to establish himself. Maybe he just reacted to it - wrongly, to be sure, and somewhat immaturely, but understanablyconsidering the huge gamble he had taken with his career.

In answer to Steve, the OP: I'm not sure you should be writing Townsend off, any and every time I have seen him he has looked direct, purposeful and industrious. Only time will tell if he has the quality to push on - he certainly seems to have impressed in hisloan placements.

I'd take Jinky in a heartbeat. Give him a regular start and I think he could be a very good player.
Perhaps a season long loan deal with option to buy to make sure he doesn't roll straight into GDS clubbing and turning up late for training mode.

Would be strong competition for Lennon on the right wing. I would be hesitant to upset the little man, he is one of the more underrated players on the team and he has been linked with other teams before. So if Johnson joined (for a reasonable price and on normal wages) and we kept Lennon happy, that would be great. Cannot see it happening personally. He will be loaned out if he wants regular football, as no other team will match his current wages and City are not gonna pay him out of his contract yet.
