Think U21 status is determined solely by age. Foyth qualified as that already when he joined us.

I think it's U21 domestically but U21 + 2 years with the club in Europe. So Sessegnon and Clarke would have to go in the 25-man squad in Europe.

[EDIT: Gedson gets caught by the same rule and is also a U21 domestically but has to be named in the 25-man squad in Europe.]

  • 42.11 A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1998 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA. Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been registered with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption.

These are the rules from the 19/20 season, so amend the bold to read 1 January 1999.

I’ve underline the relevant sentence.

Tanganga makes the u21/ B list. Clarke and Sessegnon don’t.

I stated earlier (maybe even in a different thread) that I only go by UEFA rules as that’s the stricter test and it is embarrassing to have players eligible in one competition but not the other (though I accept this may transpire to be the case depending on transfers).

Thanks for the clarification, mate! So Sess/Clarke are U21 for PL purposes but not the EL.

The amount of times I’ve read “Ollie Watson” instead of “Ollie Watkins” on this forum and especially on this thread. :ROFLMAO:

So many people I know were dead against signing Giroud in January, purely from the perspective of him being an ex Arsenal player.

Post-lockdown, he went on to prove his worth for Chelsea, scoring vital goals that ended up with them securing CL football.. Goals that he could’ve scored for us and sealed us CL instead.

I say bollocks to the ex Arsenal stuff. He is a real professional by all accounts, plus a proven winner of trophies with vital experience. He’s also one of our captains best friends. Another ‘Steady Eddie‘ Mourinho signing.

In the current climate, we have to cut our cloth accordingly with minimal risk. He’s still a good number 9 who can provide vital support to Kane. I’d personally rather go for experience who has proven himself on a bigger stage, than Wood who’s likely to need a run of games to prove his worth.

Sell Aurier, Foyth, Carter Vickers, Rose, Ndombele & Lamela, and sign Giroud, Kim min Jae, Sabitzer and Brooks/Neres - we suddenly have an excellent squad.

Giroud has a year left at Chelsea. Not sure they would help us out by letting him join us for a somewhat decent price.

Depends if they want to make changes to their squad.

Also, for those who find this suggestion even mildly amusing, here’s Giroud’s record post lockdown..

Winning goal in 2-1 vs Aston Villa
1st goal in 3-0 win vs Watford
1st goal in 3-2 win vs Palace
Winning goal in 1-0 vs Norwich
2nd goal in 2-0 vs Wolves

Plus a goal in the defeat against Liverpool. 6 vital goals. 2 of which resulted in Chelsea winning 6 more vital points. We finished 7 points behind them.

Would happily take Giroud. Just think Chelsea would rather let him leave on a free next year than selling to us at a reasonable price.

This. Problem was never whether we wanted him. It’s whether chelsea would ever sell him to us. They’d prob rather burn 15M and lose him on free than sell to us.

He’d clearly be at the top of our list but it just ain’t happening.

Wood is good player in his own right but he could never player with Kane. That is the problem we had with Llorente and our previous back up striker.

My belief is that you need a pacy striker as another option with Kane as another tactic or rotate. For me King has the best attributes to be able to rotate/cover and play the same team as Kane.

if we buy Wood he will just spend loads of the time on the bench and probably lose confidence and be frustrated. For me King is the best option and would be a reasonable price as last year of contract. I have always liked King too.

Dare I say Ollie Watkins (also known as Ollie Watson by others on here).

There's a guy playing up front for a team in Mexico who scored 11 in 32 in the 18-19 season helping his team win the league.
Only 26, got a few international caps for decent side, even scored against England at Wembley.

Forgotten his name, but might be worth a shot :)

Actually bit more seriously, has Cavani found a club yet ?

I disagree with this. I think if we want pace up top, we can just use Son or Lucas or Bergwijn. King strikes me as another option in this vein (and possibly less good). Wood however - or Costa, potentially - would give us another way to play. That’s useful when Kane’s injured but also bloody handy when he’s fit and it’s late in a game and we need a goal. People forget how Llorente helped in that scenario (think back to PSV at home) and not just when Kane injured (those crucial second halves of second legs v City & Ajax). It’s a terrific way to change the momentum of a game - and generate new and different scraps & opportunities for Harry, Son, Dele - when we have a big, strong alternative ready to cause some mayhem when we need to find an equaliser or winner. No shame in that at all.

Wood regularly plays up front with Barnes so I'm not sure why he couldn't play with Kane?

Lots in here complaining about the style of football we’d play if we brought in Wood, but isn’t that the point? When ‘Plan A‘ isn’t working, we need a ‘Plan B’, not simply different personnel who will slot straight into the aforementioned unsuccessful ‘Plan A’...

Wood will be our Plan k
