I watch Burnley quite often and believe that Wood is the best option of those suggested, at a potentially reasonable and realistic transfer fee.
Hard working, committed and aggressive.
Fits Mourinho mould well as an excellent target man - particularly strong in the air - who has a decent scoring record in the Premier League despite playing for a team with limited creativity.
Provides distinct and alternative attributes to our other attacking players.
Wood could stand in effectively for Kane in certain matches and provide a really good platform for Son, Maura, Alli and Bergwijn to play off - something we desperately lacked last season.
He could also complement Kane successfully as a figurehead for the attack - relieving pressure on Kane and creating space and opportunities for him.
An excellent option in my opinion!
Well said.

King is too similar to what we already have. And Ings seems unlikely... not just cos of what it would cost, but I don't think he'd enjoy being a backup to Kane.

That's what everyone needs to remember. Jose wants to have two target-men players. In particular, one that can fill in for Kane, and from time to time play with him.

I just hope we can get something done prior to the beginning of the season.

So Woods would make the Chelsea, United, Leicester, Arsenal, Wolves and god forbid Spurs squad?
Yeah he would be better backup striker than Ighalo, Nketiah, Cutrone, Ihenacho or no one for Spurs.

Ignoring the FFP cheats United, Liverpool, United, Arsenal, have either brought or are likely to spend more than us. So far CP, Southampton, Leeds, Sheffield Utd. Even the spammers have matched our net spend so far.
Liverpool didn't spend more than us and it won't change. Arsenal bought Willian and Gabriel(still less net spend) but any other news like Partey/Aouar aren't from any reliable sources(they will need to sell first also). From the mentioned team only Leeds spent more and it's not a surpirse that promoted team are spending a lot of money, Southampton are making profit at the moment btw

Kane is not a target man in the sense that Wood is.

And King is not too similar to what we have. In fact he'd probably offer a wider set of skills/attributes to most of our other attacking options.

So are Liverpool, Leicester and Everton.

How is Wood playing on the deck though? I know we’ve been more direct under Mourinho but if Wood is filling in for an injured Kane alongside Son, Moura, Lo Celso, Dele, Bergwijn etc. it’s not like we’re going to fully shift to thumping the ball long just to cater to him. He’s going to have to fit in with the style of our players.

That’s why I feel comfortable with either of the Bournemouth lads as Howe always tried to play good stuff and they are rapid enough to be useful in the counterattack.

I really haven’t watched a ton of Wood so I could be totally mischaracterizing him or underestimating his footballing ability but that’s my slight concern after watching his highlights and knowing Burnley’s style of play.

you know they call Dyche the Ginger Mourinho? All jokes aside, I think Woods gonna fit in well with the team and way of play. Him and Kane togheter could be a good pairing with Kane going for the deep attack and Woods as the center forward

Do I like Chris Wood? No, he fucking annoys me which is always a good sign, Lucas Moura did that for PSG in a pre season friendly.
If Mourinho wants his kind of player or someone to play as a target man then I am quite happy for him to be the man because what he does he does well.

My god am I the only one who finds this thread disappointing? If you had said to any of us 15 months ago at the Champs League final we would be buying Woods there would have been uproar on hear or just plain laughter. He isn't a Spurs signing. And the complications of Covid has nothing to do with it. This is a worse option than Llorente:oops:

Right now only Chelsea and man City have spent proper money so this strategy looks sensible somewhat.

Should the scum get partey and aouer though i expect a full ln meltdown and rightfully so. Covid or not if your rivals are showing more ambition than you its a problem.

Just a thought…
Are we being linked with wood as a negotiating ploy to get the price lower for Callum Wilson?
Ie: get close to agreement before stepping back, then get linked to another player before mysteriously returning to seal the deal at a better price.…

There hasn't been a single media link to Wood so I very much doubt it

For me if we compare Josh King with Chris Wood most fans would prefer King as he is a better "footballer". For me King is not an out and out CF and that is what we need for the squad. I like what Wood would bring to us as he has attributes that none of our players have. In many ways we have what King does already in Son. I do like King but would prefer Wood at this time.

Is the best our scouts can come up with Chris Wood and Josh King throughout the whole of world football? Pretty disappointing if that is the case. I’m sceptical there is much truth in the links to him though. Have a single one of the SC ITKers mentioned him as a possibility?

Maybe we are looking to bring in a foreign player elsewhere, so looking for a HG CF.

Was doing my fantasy football draft prep last night and discovered (much to my surprise) that Wood's goals/game ratio in the Prem is almost identical to Sonny's. So if the money is good and we can play to his strengths, I'd be all for this.

Dragon 1 has mentioned them both, specifically. SC ITK has been less specific about names.

We want homegrown in this position, also don't see any reason why this players should be disappointing
