I don’t think it is in our interests to not progress further in this competition. I read somewhere that it will have a detrimental effect on our European standing!

As much as I just want to sack it all off now. A small possibility of watching Gollini up front with Kane would be a laugh let’s be honest

Club Coefficient points.

Only really counts for group seeding and maybe in the next few years if the team with the top coefficient doesn't make the top 4 in their domestic league, they'll then get CL football.

Given this is a 'European farmers league' - 5 points from it thus far is abysmal.

How points are awarded:

...& still I'd rather we were out of it to better our chances for domestic honours and getting top4. Our second string can't beat Mura, so there's no guarantee of even getting past the 2-leg playoff "if" we progress. (which is still extremely unlikely)

Going further and winning games would help give us more points, going out would lose us potentially more points. Not sure how going out can be good for our points in Europe!

Nah at least play the kids, which is what I’m hoping for.
I can see vitesse putting at least 4/5 past Mura and even if we could played our first 11 I don’t see us matching that. Play the kids and let conte have the extra days off for the training pitch
Why do you think Vitesse will put 4/5 past Mura? The only game where they havent kept it within two goals was against us, so I wouldn't be so sure.

We still can easily get out the group. But yes, we will play a heavily rotated team and that might well be a blessing.

I don't really agree with all the 'sack it off now comments'. It's another chance to give youth and fringe players valuable match time.

The more cups we are out of the more likely alot of the squad will spend the rest of the season largely sat on the bench. Which is never going to be any good for squad moral.

Gollini
Tanganga Rodon Fagan-Walcott
Doherty Ndombele Winks Sessegnon
Markanday Scarlett Gil

John, Lavinier, White, Omole and Clarke all coming off the bench.
Let's see if any of the u23s can standout and force their way into consideration for first team squad, they're doing brilliant at their level. I'd rather we went out of this comp to give Conte better chance of getting us top 4.

Want to see Gil, if healthy, given more game time on the left where he's impressed compared to when on the right.

Lavinier not registered.

Who cares?
I get what you mean - it would still be fucking great to win a trophy regardless of the stature or what anyone thinks - but it's about as meaningless a trophy we could possibly win while also requiring a lot more matches and effort than the domestic cups.

I don't really give a shit what opposition fans say or think as winning a trophy is always a good thing, but even on here among Spurs fans deep down we know how crap a competition it is, and our real aspirations are much higher. If we won the thing, every time it got brought up on SC for the next 10 years it would be accompanied with "tallest dwarf" jokes and "mickey mouse" comments. It would be a bit like the tired old Intertoto cup jokes from yonder - there isn't much respect earned or pride in the achievement.

The comments in themselves don't matter, but they serve to show how shite a competition it is, and personally I think I'd prefer us to go all out for top 4 this season and really push on for bigger trophies under Conte rather than fannying around in this thing.

But this isn’t how it works in reality.

In reality, it means having to play Son, Kane etc. for a load more games because our squad players are bang average. One of them will undoubtedly get injured and miss important games in the PL.

The pros of having full weeks for Conte to work with the whole team outweigh the pros of being in the competition by such a long way.

Staying in this bullshit competition is simply not worth it.

We actually have a coach again that can make our players better, the longer he spends on the training pitch with them, the better we will be in the long run.

As I understand it, if we have say 14 of the declared squad available, they are the ones that will have to play, we can't just bring in players from outside that list. I guess what I mean is, the 25 man squad is the 25 man squad, there's no bringing in extras. Or is there? I've no idea.

So I'm not sure we can just 'play the kids' and forfeiting will probably get us into trouble too.

But then again, these rules are pretty high on my not particularly interested in list, so i'm probably well wide of the mark :D

You have a 25 man squad, and then you can have a B list with youngsters.
We can add players to the B list up to a day (or so) before a game as long as they are young enough and been with the club for 2 years(?)

Ah right, thanks :D

So that just leaves the other thing, about having to play a certain number of your recognised squad. Isn't that something that was brought in because teams were putting out ridiculous line ups when there was nothing riding on a game which was seen to be giving other teams still interested an unfair advantage. Something about keeping it honest (haha) or I guess a better word is competitive. Is that still a 'thing'?
