Pleased you understood what he was on about! Why is ‘Tottenham’s box special’. Still can’t work that one out
Because rules apply in our box but not in other teams' boxes is how I interpreted that. This match was good evidence of that.

We can't allow this result to send us into a poor winless run like last season. A loss against United will likely leave us 8 points off the top after 4 matches.

Wanker.

This is exactly why all clubs need to refuse that law as acceptable. If you've got this dickhead smirking and laughing his way through this interview, the officials are so thick, they'll actually believe there is nothing wrong with it and it's only teams it goes against that complain.

Common sense cannot be applied when the law is black and white.
The referees did not write the law (in fact I would guess the vast majority don't like it), but it their job to apply it, and unfortuantely for us they 100% applied it correctly in awarding the penalty.

Ah the ‘we’re just following orders’ defence that always ages so well and isn’t in any way indicative of a complete lack of courage and integrity - 2 traits we wouldn’t at all expect of in our referees...

Tbh the whole issue comes down to VAR here. They didn’t overturn a clear and obvious error from the referee in awarding the free kick that led to the goal.
Because they can't. They can only check fouls if they lead directly to goals, penalties, or if a red card should've been awarded. The incorrectly awarded free kick is an on field situation where VAR cannot overrule the referee.

Went for a walk to the shops and I still can't stop thinking about it. I've never been left this angry by football in my life.

I was really looking forward to watching the other 2 games, I can't even bring myself to switch the TV back on.
I thought I’d be the same but I’m just watching for the refereeing aspect and let me tell you, there is some absolutely blinding application of IFAB rules. Michael Oliver in unreal form today, hoping for a juicy handball in the second half

I'm not a referee but I can still acknowledge that they're being put in an impossible situation.

I'm not excusing today's ref either, there were at least one if not two Lascelles handballs that were at the very least borderline penalties with this rule and the free kick before the handball is a joke. But deliberately making "mistakes" and going against the rules to make a point is worse for a ref's career than making bad calls in the moment. That goes for every type of job in the world.

You know who else was just following rules and doing their jobs don't you

Trust me mate, I appreciate what you're saying, I do have sympathy for refs on the whole being put in this predicament (not this ref because of the decisions surrounding it) but I'm just not the type of person who will blindly follow procedures if I ethically think it's total bullshit and that's the exact mentality I have surrounding this decision. I know other people believe in having the rules in place and leaving the responsibility with the rulebook but I just simply don't agree with that mindset.

Which is very frustrating, because the very obvious error directly created the goal scoring opportunity.

I see Bruce has even said they "got away with one today"......but i wonder if the ref had said "no pen" what he would be saying tonight? Would he still agree it wasn't a pen, or would he be saying "by the letter of the law"?

I think he'd say it wasn't a penalty, because as a former defender himself he knows Dier cannot do a damn thing about it.

Joke of a decision! I only hope it evens itself out throughout the season and we get out of jail a few times. Great performance by the lads today and it’s a shame they had two points stolen from them in the end.

Well said sir. I can only say very well done Jose and the team. This has left me a bit speechless. But also reflective of Tottenham luck in general. Somehow accepting this in a philosophical way. Expect the worst and hope for the best. I know that if I consider this injustice, I will be fuming for weeks. Watched that amazon video yesterday and when I saw that Pogba penalty versus us I was ranting for about an hour. I guess football has become a farce. Really thinking of stop watching

Same. I'll calm down but that result will fucking annoy me all season as I know our points tally isn't what it should be.

We lose momentum now and going to OT next it's just such a shit situation.

You can guarantee they'll get the decisions next week as well.
