Mourinho is absolutely right with what he says about there being a clear discrepancy between the decisions the “traditional” top 4 get compared to the rest of the league.

I remember the Premier League jumping to Chelsea’s side when VAR “incorrectly” missed a Lo Celso red card (which IMO was not a red card) and issuing an apology whilst the match was still going.

I don’t seem to remember the Premier League apologising to us for taking away Kane’s goal which VAR incorrectly adjudged the ball to have hit Lucas’ arm in the build up?

I also don’t expect the Premier League to apologise today for incorrectly awarding a penalty when the rules literally fucking state that if the player has his back turned he should be given leeway.

Tell me to put on my tin foil hat or whatever, I couldn’t care less, but the referees in this league are artificially useless. They’ve been given a mandate to protect their “top” clubs.

Totally agree. I've always suspected that there was some form of corruption going on, but after today I'm absolutely convinced there is now.

The top clubs are what's making the money for the league so it would be in their best interests to keep them on top.

We should have scored enough goals to win. Erroneous decisions happen and that's part of the team to have the whereabouts to take that possibility into account and score that second goal.

This is probably just the start, there’ll be another stupid rule change in the next year or two.
Having a whole panel dedicated to football rule changes it’s just going to breed more and more tweaks and changes, they aren’t going to sit and do nothing and do themselves out of a job

First thing I said to my mates who didn't appreciate it was that a ref wouldn't have the fucking balls to give that decision against United or Liverpool.

It was simple errors that needed to be corrected. VAR has taken over and created areas in the game that didn't need a judgment call. Its given the refs a broader span to influence games. The Euro games are going to be interesting this year when English clubs meet the big boys form Europe and we have the upper hand. Enter stage left- VAR, penalty-English club out. Corrupt as Ive ever seen corrupt could be.

The whole problem is that the refs are shit.

VAR is not the problem, it's just highlighted how shit the refs are.

The words of Hodgson and Bruce are encouraging but the only people who will influence change are those who control the finances - and that’s fans and broadcasters (currently fans via broadcasters). Nothing changes unless fans mobilise and stop funding this bullshit.

All very well, but if you keep accepting these penalty decisions when they go your way, then you can't be completely against it.

Like I give a damn what you or anyone else on here thinks. Season ticket holder for almost 20 years so I'll trust my opinion over 99% of the posters on this site.
The biggest thing I’ve learnt since going to Spurs more over the last three years is that the people inside the stadium who start any argument with “I’ve been a season ticket holder for x amount of years, and...” generally talk an absolute load of bollocks.

Yeh, that doesn't look like a clear Pen according to the laws, as it hits him in the higher part of the arm which is no longer hand ball.
People can wtf me as much as you want, but do it after reading the laws of the game.

I don't want to copy the image in there in case there is some copyright issue for the forum, but you'll see what I mean by the upper part of the arm not counting towards handball.

And they have given that leeway as long as the arm is next to the body and not out.

But if arm is away from the body, then ricochets, accidental, ball to hand, hitting from behind are totally irrelevant, it is a penalty now.

Per the laws it is a penalty (and has been given on the continent in recent years)

If Sonny has picked up an injury , we all know how the story goes , Harry will turn his ankle followed by either Lucas or Stevie getting injured, with Spurs there is hardly ever a Happy Ending. Still there is always Gareth to looked forward to.

Yeah, but based on that section of rule explanation goes they don't even know the rules - that's worrying considering what actually happened.

Essentially, what you're saying is that we are responsible because we failed to score enough goals to make up for the possible negative outcome that would come about through the implementation of an awful, totally unfit-for-purpose rule. I'm pretty sure that's the very essence of nonsense.

I never said we were responsible for the decision, and I think you're going a bit far to suggest that factoring in the possibility of a bad decision into a game plan is "the very essence of nonsense".

Two things can be true at the same time : 1. We deserved to win and were robbed by a poor decision and 2. If we had put the game to bed then that bad decision wouldn't have cost us. It doesn't mean we deserve to lose, or that the result is our fault. But if you want to win, you have to reduce the likelihood of being screwed by a shit decision. That is actually the very opposite of nonsense.

If the result had gone the other way and we’d secured an away point this way. Would we be laughing and making up a song about VAR ?

bet we wouldnt give a monkeys. Yes it’s a shocker but it is the rules.

If someone could edit together the Newcastle hand balls, the actual challenge that lead to the free-kick, the VAR offside check and the final decision it would be the most systematic raping of a football club ever recorded in 30 seconds of football.

With how the game is at the moment we'll see lots more penalties like that. Big strikers being challenged will result in headers hitting arms all the time and we'll see more rubbish like that penalty until changes are made to the rules.
