Gio was visibly hobbled at the end of the City match so no surprise at all that he's been held out of this, hopefully it truly is minor and he'll be fine for Villa. It's been established year after year after year that we can't rely on Lamela to ever be available so again no surprise there. Just means we can't rest Son or Lucas, fingers crossed they make it through unscathed.

Why is everyone freaking out about Lo Celso's & Lamela's injury? It's probably minor, and we have a winter break after this, we won't play again till the 16th, they should be available then.
I'm sure you're right. It's just maddening that we can't get a consistent lineup for a few weeks. And we badly need a win tonight.

Lo Celso has been phenomenal and we need him back ASAP.

Lamela is a perma-crock and needs to be sold in the summer as he’s completely unreliable.

Fucks sake Lamela. When do we cut our losses? I love the guy but it’s beyond a joke now, the guy just can never stay fit

pretty obvious why If you ask me. We can’t keep a consistent team together. Some people are just blindly contrary for the sake of it but I dunno how people keep patience with Lamela

I'd probably be happier if skipp was starting instead of dier, dier winks and n'dombele scares me as must be one of the most immobile midfields I can think of, dier hasn't had a good game all season, n'dombele looks likes hes blowing after 10 minutes, puts a lot of pressure on winks who ran himself into the ground on sunday

I think he's got to go this summer personally. Even though Lamela is quality when he's available (IMO) we'd be far better off if his place in the squad were taken by someone like Eze. What good is it having a squad player who you can't even reliably call upon when you want to rotate the squad.

That looks a 4-3-3, which I like a lot.

But no Gio or Lamela is very, very bad news. Good thing we don't play for 10 days.

Fed up of us always unearthing an injury/injuries at the team announcement. Happens way too often. I don't understand how so many players can pick up an injury in the time between team news being sent out the day before, and the kick off of the game.

Lamela has got very mentally strong - comes back from injury and affects games immediately, and almost always makes an impact from the bench. But another way of looking at it is he's just got good at being injured.

Winter break will do us good, a chance for several players to refresh themselves and return from injury. Just need to get through this game and into the next round.

Did Dele take a knock to the ankle
That said he's been struggling lately so rest might do him good.

yes, but it’s ok because sterling was upright and is not that type of player so couldn’t possibly have caused an injury when he smashed his studs into Deles ankle. Or at least that’s what the experts told us.

maybe Jose purposely asked for information not to be released so that Southampton couldn’t guess his team and likely tactics.
