To be honest not entirely sure why we don’t go back down the director of football approach. Know in the past Potch has said he won’t work under a DOF. However given his comments yesterday wonder if he will reconsider now. It feels that our current approach to transfers isn’t really working.
It always seemed like Levy favours that system but wanted to show him how much he was valued by making him manager. I just feel like DoF or not, Levy will always have a massive input - that's just the reality of it.

So PSG would be willing to forfeit some of their percentage....for us to sign their former player?

Wonder if Levy's offered them a certain left back on a cut price deal
What would be the point of that though? Would it not make more sense to just offer more money to make it less complicated? The net result is essentially the same.

I think the problem with offering more money as Trix has pointed out is that all our dealings with all clubs from that point on would start from the viewpoint "Oh Spurs will be prepared to pay THAT! Just look at what they paid for X last summer!"

Case in point seems to be Maguire and the £90m Leicester want (jokers).

Considering the first news of this transfer broke on BBC and the figure was 50 million + (can't remember if that was pounds or euros) then I wonder where Gaffney is getting those figures from.

I honestly can't remember as bizarre a transfer as this. Betis clearly need the money to be able to get a striker and other key needs. Lo Celso is the only player they've got who would actually sell for a substantial amount of money. Deal is agreed on 2 occasions supposedly, and then Betis renege on the deal twice. They must have balls the size of wrecking balls over in Seville as things could be very very badly for them if Lo Celso isn't sold.

anyone had the thought that since last week when the deal was agreed supposedly the exchange rates have changed drastically with the UK's new hard-line approach to the Brexit negotiations the £ has bombed and a 2%+ swing in currency rates is a huge sum when its on a €50-70m deal

It's a good point. Saying that, presumably Levy never pays all up front on a large fee so that risk always remains throughout the process of paying the instalments? Or doesn't it? I'm confused!

It’s weird. In that time Spanish media said 40m, BBC said 60m and Di Marzio said 70m

Fee discrepancies in the media are usually where add-ons are involved. If you want to sound like it's a low ball offer, you use the guaranteed amount, if you want to make it sound impressive you use the total possible amount.

Look at Hazard, RM said it was £88m, Chelsea say up to £120m after realistic add-ons.

Also a quick note on the 20% sell-on, it was mentioned as the surplus on there, which means it would be £4m less than it would if it related to the whole fee. So £8m if he went for £60m. Maybe we have entered a side agreement with PSG for that?

I’m not worried about this. For all we know, Poch could’ve told Levy “it’s Lo Celso, or it’s nobody” similar to last year when Levy was unable to get De Jong and Ndombele for various reasons.

If that is the case and GLC is the only player Poch wants, it definitely makes sense to wait and save money. Betis need to sell and GLC would’ve missed most of pre season regardless so waiting would make no difference.

For the record, I’m getting pretty tired of reading the Levy hate on this forum. It honestly makes no sense to call Levy tight when the man above him, Joe Lewis, a multi billionaire, is giving us nothing.
