I'm quite surprised that no ITK suggested that Benteke could sign a new deal with Villa. Nobody at all even remotely suggested that was an option, similar to the nearly universal silence (LLM excepted) about Villa to A. Madrid.
All the while a good lot of it is promoting the idea that we will sign these players. Is it agent gossip?
As Greavsie once said: 'Itk's a funny old game, Saint.'
Maybe we as a club are a bit more tighted lipped with info now days so ITK are less well informed

If this means we are pushing harder for Soldado and Bernard then this is good news. I doubt Remy could be signed until his rape case is heard.
Indeed. Along with Paulinho, 3 genuinely next level, starting calibre players signed. I'll be stunned if we drop another £40m on 2 players though. Not unless we clear much of our deadwood out also and still no movement on that front.

I'd take a £5m Remy as our striker option if it allowed us to get Bernard for £20m. As long as he is aquitted of course. Really wouldn't want to support a rapist every week.

I agree - but can you really see us signing Soldado and Bernard?

I have to agree with this, I doubt we would be able to sign both as they would both cost in excess of 15 million pounds and frankly we can't afford to make 3 big signings this window. I am truly gutted about Benteke though really didn't see a new contract as an option but I'd now like to see us going in for some bargain strikers that would improve our front line but could still be attainable for a reasonable price and Bernard in.

The reason they didn't mention Benteke is because they are not as close to what is going on as others. It has been rumbling on all week.
Now I will update you more soon with why DL wouldn't pay up but I haven't heard the full story yet.
We should have gone for it though :0(
Could be Soldado or Remy now.
We are in for Bernard in a big way now too as well which is pleasing.

If Villa were asking too much money then it is probably right that DL didn't want to pay up, what I find strange however is how quickly Benteke signed a contract extension upon returning to Villa. What it seems like is that we got played by the agent/player and they never intended on coming here in the first place.

Not to mention the VdV one too.
Need to get someone decent in, and soon imo, so they can get "embedded" in the squad.
No more last minute panic-buys please.

This could well go all the way to last day as levy will look for a cut price deal this will always overide quality in any financial deals that he gets involved in imo.

It seemed pretty likely that we were going to spend £20m on Benteke and £10m+ on McCarthy 48 hours ago. We'd have to spend a little more but it wouldn't be an earth shattering additional amount surely?!

I agree with you JJ, we should of gone for it, but then again I'm not privy to what Villa were demanding.

Great news if we are in for Bernard in a big way!!

And Soldado over Remy to, if you could pass that on :).....but I suspect when we delve a little deeper on those two it will be Remy all day long given the price difference!

Bernard + Soldado would complete a great summer

Bernard + Remy would leave us praying AVB manages to fix Ade's head

I think Remy is far too head down/unintelligent, he has a cronic injury record, and has an upcoming court case with a possible 5 year prison sentence. I wouldn't even take him on a free. And I doubt as a father of daughters AVB would want him anywhere near the club either.

You don't think its possible that Villa were desperate for him to stay & offered him more than we were to convince him to stay? Not saying that's what happened, just that its a possibility.

I think I am right in saying two different sources (Ryantegan and Atlanta Yid ?) have said we will be spending big this summer or words to that effect. Absolutely no evidence that that is actually happening. Seems like a usual Spurs Transfer Window to me.

We are between a rock and a hard place in the current transfer market.
We have upped our wage bill, to keep and attract players.

But the current striker market has jumped again - its now north of £25m + wages, for any young striker of note.

We will not and nor should we play this inflated transfer game as a club, its not sustainable at this time for TFC

THe like of Ba and his mate Cissa would be an excellent market to look at. Remy and Dzeko also might be worth an enquiry.

Fantasising over all the Spanish hit men 'now' is a waste of time.

I don't see us signing a striker tbh

Soldado - Levy won't pay that much for a 28 year old
Ba - Chelsea hate us
Torres - Chelsea hate us
Remy - Might go to jail
Dzeko - On 200k+ a week
Higuain - If a CL club like Arsenal don't excite him we got no chance
Rooney - Wages

Adebayor, Defoe, Kane it is imho

I disagree that we got played. We tapped...I mean we enquired, Benteke wants a move, hands in a transfer request, we get quoted too much money, walk away, there is no one else in for him, so his agent gets him a deal to stay.

Just 17m more than Utd and Arse so far.

Bernard and Soldado would be the icing on the cake. But knowing our luck both will sign for Arsenal.

I just think that DL said no to what Villa were asking. Villa were wanting to give Bentekkers (that's all yours, jair) a new contract before anyone made an offer to Villa this summer. If CB only wanted a bit more of a payrise, there was no need to hand in a TR. Just point out that it was nice they wanted to give him a new contract but seeing as other clubs were interested in his services, could they add on another zero or something.

Anyways, when we said, shove your 25% sell-on clause up your Harris what could CB do? Still request a transfer, refuse to train? Continue to alienate the club and have the fans turn on him? Or could he tell a lie that everyone can live with. Ya know, "Birmingham is really great. I love it here. I'm hugely excited to strive for a top half finish this season, it's every schoolboy's dream."

Clearly a load of horseshit but people can deal with it.
