I have a feeling the Benteke transfer will drag on for a while longer. Lets hope Villa see the benefit of letting him go early so they can find a replacement. Otherwise if they try and hold out for £25m it will go on and on. Daniel Levy wont budge that's for sure.

It might well rumble on for a while, but its not going to go on until deadline day that much I'm certain, or even by the time a ball is kicked I would say.

Villa will want time to make their moves as a result. We've also got to be mindful of other Clubs gazumping us even if Benteke's first choice is us.

can't remember anyone saying Bernard and Chadli were 'as good as done'

Removing them still gives us a 20% success rate...

I'm not bashing any ITK info, moreso bashing people who hang on the ITKs every word. As is so often said on here, a pinch of salt required. I will be over the moon if we sign Benteke, and the information we have just now says its close. I believe we will be successful in getting Benteke compared to Villa, Halilovic etc because all the right noise is there. We have quotes from Benteke, the financials make sense for all parties AND it is a player who has all the attributes we need to nicely round off our squad.

AVB wants 2 players per position plus 3 utility players in the 25 man squad.

IF we sign Benteke we have:

GK: Lloris, Friedel, Gomes
RB: Walker, Naughton
LB: BAE, Rose
CB: Kaboul, SuperJan, Caulker, Dawson
MF: Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro, Holtby, Sigurdsson, Parker, Carroll, Huddlestone, Livermore
FW: Bale, Townsend, Lennon, Adebayor, Benteke, Defoe, Dempsey

That's 27 players. I can see us selling Parker, Huddlestone and 1 Forward from Adebayor, Defoe, Dempsey or Lennon. Although who that is will be based on other clubs' interest and getting value.

Positional requirements for ABV's 4-3-3:

GK
2 Full Backs, 2 Centre Backs
Holding Midfielder and 2 Box-to-Box Midfielders or 2 Holding midfielders and 1 Creative midfielder
2 Wide Forwards, 1 Physical Striker OR 1 Wide Foward, 1 Winger, 1 Striker

Say we sell Parker, Huddlestone and Defoe. We will play up to 60 games this season, no player can play 60 games a season without a dip in form, this is why the game has changed to maximising tactical and physical possibilities with a balanced and diverse squad over having 11 star names. It's a squad game now. Our defence is balanced positionally while also having a good mix of youth and experience. Our midfield is amazing. Sandro, Livermore, Paulinho, Holtby, Dembele can all play holding positions. Paulinho, Dembele, Holtby, Sigurdsson can all play box-to-box. Holtby, Sigurdsson, Carroll, Dembele can all play as a creative hub. For our forwards, Adebayor, Benteke, Dempsey, Bale will all be able to lead the line if required. Lennon, Bale and Townsend can all play as a traditional winger. Bale, Lennon, Townsend, Dempsey, Adebayor can play wide forward positions.

Our signings over the last year have all screamed versatility to me. Sigurdsson, Dembele, Vertonghen, Paulinho. IF we get Benteke, I would be happy starting the season with this squad. I wouldnt say no to another established wide forward as Lennon, Dempsey and Adebayor are unproven in such a position, but we have a Champions League worthy squad.

IF we sign Benteke.

Fingers crossed we can get Benteke in before Hong Kong. Would be good for him to settle into the team. Anyone know when Paulinho will return from holiday? I'm guessing he'll start training when we're back from Hong Kong.

unless they decide they don't want to sell him or they play total hardball over the fee, which tends to happen to us a lot

Players this Summer who were 'as good as done': Paulinho, Bernard, Villa, Halilovic, Jedjav, Chadli, Benteke
Players we have: Paulinho

Or maybe you have trouble interpreting ITK and sorting through what is garbage ITK and what is not.

Jedjav/Halilovic - ITK felt strongly it was close but never had the done deal. If you read the reports after, ITK was actually correct in that it was very close to being completed but hit some snags in the end.

Villa - again, the good ITK never stated it was a done deal but implied it was awfully close. Read the Villa article from yesterday in which he states he was all set to sign for Spurs but Atletico came in a couple days prior and he couldn't turn it down.

Bernard - very few mentions from what is considered the cream of the crop among the ITK - JJ, POTL, etc. Personally feel this one is a long way off and not even sure we have much interest.

Chadil - never heard anyone saying a done deal but simply that he is a plan b.

Benteke - again, don't take someone saying it is very close to it being a done deal. JJ said it was close and should be sorted, but that is far from a done deal in footballing terms.

Not that I mean to upset anybody but we are not even looking at bernard anymore.

you might as well pass around the cyanide tabs LLM, but seriously; knowing that is surely gonna give your identity away isn't it - which I thought you didn't wanna do... Isn't it why you're being guarded?

I mean, unless you're dining at the top table, or are in charge of company emails, how would you know? Careful pal.

I think the Darren Bent situation will work in our favour, Villa have already written off one '£20m' striker in Darren Bent (typing that made me feel woozy), it's very unlikely they will do the same to Benteke by making him stay in the reserves if we don't go to the £25m they want

Not that I mean to upset anybody but we are not even looking at bernard anymore.

And just when I was beginning to like you :(

They've already announced their intention to sell - providing their valuation is met. They might not want to sell if we don't get anywhere near that figure, and that's fair enough IMO.

However, ITK, suggests we are deep in negotiations which is a good sign. It would be over pretty quick if there was no way a deal looked likely. So we are close to their valuation obviously.

Another important point is that its Villa's valuation, not what they're fans are saying because they actually aren't privy to that info - they're just guessing.
