We won't get Zidane. Zidane's a Juve hero and the head of UEFA is...oh, THE Juve hero. And PSG are French.

Nothing will happen. We've just got to prove on the pitch we're good enough so these people don't think we're pushovers off it.

What's the alternative? Do nothing?

Then we're just allowing free reign to any of the money clubs to overtly tap up our players.
Nobody's denying that tapping up is commonplace but when prominent members of a club are repeatedly using the press to court players, then they are taking the piss.
Plus in this situation neither Villas Boas or Bale have made any indication that they would like to leave.
By making some kind of stand, even if it's token, we are supporting our staff.
PSG and Real Madrid can fuck right off on this.

Levy Time  I hate that saying, *levy time* only happened one time, and that was about 3 years ago.

I thought Levy time referred to Levy's last minute (i.e last day of window) deals, of which there is seemingly at least one of these every summer:

Players signed on Deadline Day:
12/13 - Lloris & Dempsey bought
11/12 - Crouch sold to Stoke
10/11 - VdV bought
09/10 - Kranjcar bought
08/09 - Berbatov sold to Utd & Campbell in on loan

Levy Time  I hate that saying, *levy time* only happened one time, and that was about 3 years ago.

It was worth it though, remember this from BBC Sport on the day? Probably the most exciting transfer-related stuff in years (only click the third spoiler, not sure where the extra two have come from...):

jblaze761 on Twitter: "My heart can't take this, and I'm not even a Spurs fan!"

2015: I can exclusively reveal... the Tottenham media staff are still not answering their phones. Given we had planned to wrap this commentary bad boy up at around 1900 BST, I'm starting to wonder how long I should continue. It might be worth sticking around just in case Rafael van der Vaart is presented this evening, though… especially if his missus is in tow. Even if VdV is rubbish, she'll brighten up White Hart Lane on a matchday and no mistake.

Mark Saxton via text: "How dare you mention another club and player whilst we're still waiting for confirmation on Van der Vaart!!"

I am not the best Paul Scholes is on 606: "Rafael van der Vaart is a TOP, TOP player! I wish Man Utd bought him. I would love to see him in the Premier League and I think Spurs' style would suit him. And for £8 million he'd be the bargain of the decade!!"

hugrrr on 606: "Eight million pounds??!? Couldn't we have just bought one third of Milner for that price?!? Levy=Legend."

1953: Those Harry Redknapp quotes for you, then: "It (The Rafael van der Vaart deal) is still dragging on. We have been trying to do something but we are waiting to see if it has all gone through and we are hoping it has. It's something to do with clearance. I think he was going to Bayern Munich yesterday for £18m and suddenly he became much cheaper. They let me know around 1600 BST that he was available for £8m and for that money he is a top player who will definitely improve us. The fee has come crashing down because the deadline is so close. He's a great passer of the ball, he's a top footballer, he will join in here and be a big plus for us. We were also interested in Ryan Babel, he was a player we made an enquiry about but it never came close."

RobertDougherty on Twitter: "I like how Live Deadline Day Text has become 'The Rafael van der Vaart show'."

1947: Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says the club are waiting for confirmation that their signing of Rafael van der Vaart, for around £8m, has been ratified by the Premier League.

942: Now then - Spanish publication Marca, who tend to have their finger firmly on the pulse of all things Real Madrid, are reporting that Tottenham have indeed signed Rafael Van der Vaart. And STILL the Spurs media team are unreachable. Have Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy really pulled a rabbit out of the hat at the death?

New Tottenham midfielder Sandro on Twitter: "Thank you very much to the fans. I will try to make the best for Tottenham. Go Spurs."

Mike, Dublin, via text: "This Van der Vaart story is wrecking my head! Is it on or not?"

1904: Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is still at Spurs Lodge. He wouldn't normally be, believe me. Tottenham media staff still not answering their phones. Are they photographing Rafael van der Vaart in his new Tottenham shirt? Or begging with the Premier League to ratify the deal? Drama drama drama.

DoronSalomon on Twitter: "Sam, the Van der Vaart stuff...not happening. Mark my words."

1810: The word is that Rafael van der Vaart is at Spurs Lodge. Remarkable. We'll let you know more about that as soon as we have it.

1755: You've got to love Tottenham on days like this, you just have to. They have five minutes to wrap it up, but get a load of this. Sky Sports News are claiming a deal could - COULD - be done for the Londoners to sign Netherlands international Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid. Unbelievable.

1754: DONE DEAL: Birmingham have completed the signing of Chile winger Jean Beausejour on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Club America.

MelbourneAndy on 606: "Confirmed on Carlisle SMS... Ian Harte has signed for Bristol City on a one-year deal subject to medical."

1750: TEN MINUTES UNTIL THE TRANSFER WINDOW SHUTS

I always take it to mean a big surprise signing that nobody saw coming, ie VDV.

DL publicly made complaints about similar behaviour from Liverpool and particularly Man Utd about Keane and Berbatov. Slightly worryingly the complaints were made shortly before selling them both and it was widely speculated at the time that he did it to bolster the transfer fee.

And before we get too far up onto the moral high ground let's not forget the slightly unorthodox route that Zeki Fryers took on his way to us. Everyone is playing the game...

Re: Madrid's tapping up of Bale, I reckon UEFA will do sweet fuck all. RM are pretty much untouchable. It's a sad reality that clubs work under such different circumstances. It's a corrupt world where the rich and powerful can do as they please.

Well I should think people like Zinedine Zidane should be easy targets for a tapping up complaint.

Yep I agree - no ifs or buts about it! Come to think of it, he buts more than the Goat!

ok so what real has done r.e tapping up (rather blatantly) is annoying and makes my piss boil just a bit but lets face it everyone taps up. Do we not think spurs have spoke to players agents to check if their clients would be interested long before we have bid, or even spoken to the players club? Hasnt AVB himself said on a number of occasions we are interested in players such as Damiao (On Tv and in interviews, in the same way ZZ, Ratface and Real have). Oh and then there was Harrys car window public courting of players he thinks are 'triffic'. Everyone does it perhaps not so brazen or as often but it goes on. Lets be clear if we were in a position to sign players of Bales quality and at the prices mentioned, would our fans not be happy if we employed these rather public flirtation techniques??
That is all

Totally different contract situation for those players.

Seriously, the paranoia on this forum is incredible.

Why?

Tone of an email can be misleading. I will rather a face to face so nothing gets lost in translation.

We don't speak French and they don't speak English, something's bound to be lost in translation. :p
