Sorry but if we do take action against tapping up we'll just look like massive twats having a hissy fit.
Who could we get justice from and although it's on a bigger scale because of the clubs involved it's not very different from what many clubs including us have done in the past.
We'll just make powerful enemies and it's not worth considering unless something really outrageous has happened.

If I were Levy I would adopt a very simple principle on this one. The more they do it, tapping up etc, the more the price goes up. So, the more pressure they put on us using media channels which in essence is to push the price down - the more we should increase our valuation as we hold all the aces contractually and Real no Bale isn't the type to throw his toys out.

It really doesn't matter at the end of the day. There is no way Levy is going to allow Bale to go for anything other than a world record breaking fee - and that might not even be enough.

Principally though I would be inclined to teach them a frigging lesson. Another one of Levy's classic little precedents could be on the cards here.

It's about protecting ourselves financially.

When the same thing happened with Arnesen, we basically told Chelsea that we'd shop them unless they paid us a ridiculous amount, which they eventually had to do.

With AVB, if the worst were to happen and he was lured away by the megabucks, we'd at least want to make sure that we got a jizz-load of money for him and this threat of taking action would help that.

As I said, it doesn't bother me. In fact I quite admire them. They have got to a position at the top of the food chain where they aren't scared of the consequences and can throw their muscle around and try and destabilise a club and a player in order to get him. If I was in that position I can honestly say I would do it in a heartbeat, if it was a rival club then even better, chucking out a few media statements and watching them go into meltdown would amuse me no end. If there was an opportunity for Spurs to do it then we should, and anyway we are hardly angels in this regard with some of our previous.

It's a cut throat world is football. You win some, and you lose some. In the case of Bale face it we will lose eventually within the next two years anyway. So its not something I can get annoyed about.

I don't like it at all. But that's not the real point here. What they're doing is not really going to affect anything, this summer anyway. Its not like the Modric situation where his camp were working with the other side to force a move. We hold all the aces contractually and Bale is not going to do a Modric. Madrid would love it if he did and the pressure in the press is designed to encourage him to do so, but I really don't think he will so its probably going to be pretty futile. Not nice reading but it won't affect anything. Levy will have a figure in his own mind - if that isn't matched he won't be going. Could be a 100 million for all we know.

That puts us (EPL) at amajor disadvantage to every other major league doesn't it.

It does at the moment, but UEFA do intend to prohibit third party ownership for all clubs in Europe.

"We understand that an adjustment period may be needed, and UEFA would be in favour of transitional measures. Nevertheless, we are firmly of the view that third-party player ownership has no place in football, and our priority remains to protect our sport and to build and maintain its long-term stability."

Instead of wasting time reporting PSG and Real we should be spending all our energy getting in AVB's top targets, something which would go along way to convincing him and Bale to spurn their suitors.

What if we report them to UEFA/FIFA and they say there is no case to answer ? Dangerous game we could be playing.

Yep indeed. I'm hoping we are doing that regardless.

I would have thought we can do both without putting too much strain ourselves :playful:

Bale's agent himself went out and told "we" are honoured by interest from Real M. (Barnett told Marca TV: "If Real president Florentino Perez is interested in Gareth Bale, it would be an honour and we'd listen.). So should Spurs take Bale's own agent to court for courting other clubs? For sure the "interest" Barnett was talking about was not rumous he read in The Sun/Mirror etc.
These slime of agents know how to avoid rules and regulations anyway.
Besides, ManU/Fergie successfully tapped up both Carrick and Berba from Spurs, and nothing happened. Nor did Real's tapping up of Ronaldo lead to any consequences.

So it appears that supposed record bid the other day was probably from PSG. Founded 1970. Isn't modern football great? (n)

The best way is for us to make some bloody good signings, and then for Bale to come out and tell Madrid to fuck off and Zidane to stop embarrassing himself.

I doubt we'd do anything without solid proof. When we got Liverpool to make that donation to our charity, we must have had them by the nuts so I imagine we know what the rules are and which options are available to us.
