Carroll posted a pic on twitter of him training with Younes, which would further suggest he was out of contention. Parrett was obvioulsy expecting to play against Soton so is presumably not in contention for a starting berth, and Byrne is now not available.

Yep - I would definitely play Parret over Mason in the Sandro role.

Hudd, Mason and Carroll as the CM trio would be horribly flimsy.
Whilst I agree but we seem to be playing hudd and carroll in preseason and against united we played carroll and Mason against Darren Fletcher, Tunnicliffe(DM, looked good) and Powell, and they kept most of the possession throughout the game

I think Mason is ahead of Carroll at the moment as well

Think its just that Carroll went to the gym and met Younis - I wouldn't read anything more into it. Dean Parrett, I agree, was expecting to go to Southampton for u 21's, but that may because Spurs did not want to pull all their senior players out of u 21';s.

Have not seen anything on Byrne, could you post it ? Mind you I think he would only play if AVB put out a mainly development squad which is not likely.

In my mind the following order applies to the development squad being in contenbtion for Carlisle :

ist choice pool : Smith (RB could cover LB if necessary) , Carroll, Mason, Townsend (and Caulker obviously)
next choice : Parrett, Falque and Obika (covers strikers spot, allows Defoe and Dempsey a rest on bench or total rest)
next choice : Byrne (covers troublesome LB position)
next choice : Hall, Veljkovic, Stewart, Ceballos, Pritchard, Munns (all not very likely, too inexperienced - outside chance of bench)

ok just seen news of Byrne joining Crawley - slightly bizarre timing plus big step down from 2 League 1 loans.

hmm. I am behind the times it seems, agreed they are,,always think of them as non league

They had an absolute tonne of money (for their level of football) and kind of shot up quickly. Still you'd hope after 2 league 1 loan spells that he'd have the chance to step up to Championship level.

Agreed, but at Bournemouth last season injured after about a month (of a season long loan) and not fit for about 4 months after which returned to Spurs. Think he's a decent footballer but not not pulled up any trees as yet. He's a right back if anytthing but generally used as utility player and think that means he will find it difficult to shine (add in the injuries and that makes problem worse). But by comparison would think he is a long way behind of thye pecking order behind Smith, Mason, Carroll, Parrett et al and loans will reflect that.

Wouldnt be happy seeing Walker, Vertonghen or Defoe risked in this one. Too big a game on Saturday. Unless AVB knows Adebayor is fit and will play we need to wrap Defoe in cotton wool.
