Spence needs to prove himself. He’s at one of the biggest clubs in the world and playing for one of the best coaches in the world. He can’t expect to walk straight into the first team coming from the championship. If he wants it he needs to earn, and prove to Conte the way royal shows. Royal even paid 1m in personal training, so it shows his hunger.

Disgrace is OTT - but in the same way that Sess deserved to start last night, Emerson most certainly didn’t!

Emerson was always going to start last night.

He’s suspended for two more domestic matches, meaning Doherty will likely be starting.

No way was Conte going to risk an injury to Doherty last night with Emerson still serving a domestic suspension against Everton and United.

And would also mean Doherty playing 3 games in 7 days. Which is too much when he's returning from a long-term injury.

It was all fairly predictable. Frankfurt every bit as poor as i expected. We didn't take enough of our chances and we gave away daft goals. We can get away with it at home against teams of their calibre, but won't if continue on this vein in the knockout stages

It is amazing that some people seem unable to grasp this relatively simple fact.

Just got home, we could have won that by 7 if their keeper had not been so good. Haven’t seen any highlights so still wondering why their player wasn’t given a second yellow for hauling down Sonny as he went past him and in on goal. The ref had just booked Sessignon for a lesser offence moments before. That was just one of many dubious decisions during the match. A terrible referee.
I couldn’t understand why we just tried to shut up shop after the sending off on the hour. I felt we could have put the game to bed with another goal and avoided the nervy ending .
A much better performance than many this season.

I couldn’t understand it either. It was as clear a booking as you’ll ever see. At one point I even thought he was going to give the foul against Son!

We’re not all blessed with the undoubted amounts of wisdom that you obviously possess

Also we’ve got 3 right wing backs - allegedly!

Because he was shit. His performance today was well below par. I don’t often sit in the lower west but I got a good look at him from pitch level and his football skills are no where near the level to play champions league. He cannot control a ball. He cannot read the game. He does not know where our players are. He has no vision. He falls over. He loses too many one on one tackles. He cannot cross the ball. He makes our defence panic and he is targeted by our opposition. I don’t think I can think of a positive. That is why we get so many posts saying, to use your in words, he is shit. I don’t care what words others want to use. But to the majority of us who watch him each week he is the worst player in our side and is miles off the level we need to progress in all the competitions. Putting it bluntly he is a ****ing liability.
He actually has played well in quite a few games.

However, yesterday was a shocking game from him. He's lucky not to have gotten injured when he pulled out of that tackle in the first half.

We have two first-choice right wing backs.

Irrespective of what people who have never seen Spence play but have decided he's the next Javier Zanetti think.

It's funny he says that because I've been posting precisely this behind the scenes for a while now, because that's exactly how I've been hearing it, and it's not only from one source.
He won't last very long at Spurs under Conte if he doesn't get with the programme. Surely it isn't that difficult to follow Conte 's instructions. If he does and shows his qualities I am sure Conte will play him.

Thought Sess showed great energy all game and was pinning his ears back and sprinting. After all his muscle injuries, he has had a tendency to sprint within himself this season, but last night he felt like he was trusting his body. Good signs.

He knows he needs to up his game as coming over the hill is Udogie.

That Son strike was outrageous. Total class.

All things considered, great win and another home win puts us through.

Bit surprised at the amount of negativity in here (but only a bit!). I thought that was a pretty decent performance all round and with a decent ref would have been much more comfortable.

Signs of the Kane/Son partnership starting to click a bit more and a good cameo from Gill.

Sounds a lot like Twitter which i don't even bother with anymore.

For the positives i actually think Royal has decent control of the ball, he can also pass around in very tight areas, last night he put in some great crosses. For people reading this as well a good cross is not just when somebody scores or nearly scores, sometimes a cross will be made in to a dangerous area as that is what is practiced and he has to rely on others getting into the right spots to get something on the ball.

It does feel like Royal is the new Jenas
The sad thing is you could replace Jenas with a number of different names and this post would still be relevant.

It was an odd game. Up until the sending off it was one of our most impressive performances in months. We took our foot off the gas (possibly with the weekend in mind) and suffered a scare as a consequence. That’s all it was though - a scare. If Kane had put the game to bed with that second penalty I imagine the reaction would be a bit different.

Bottom line is that we played some really good football for most of the game and secured a massively important win. It was a good night with a minor blemish.

Interesting. Worrying if he isn’t adapting or learning. I guess might be another failed scouting mission from us, particularly as his personal issues have been documented.
I hope he comes good but it’s not looking good for him if that’s the case. Conte won’t stand for it

Don't know sometimes some players take longer than others to adapt, to new ways of playing especially if they are used to playing off of instinct.

As I say there are no issues with him as far as I am aware, and Conte is happy to work with players as long as they are putting the effort in. I think a January loan, and a full pre season would be best for all involved here. Problem then is needing to again address the HG issue.

Was at game last stand in block 502 west stand. Why did the club put about 200 Frankfurt fans in the block behind and to my left ? Friends and family ? Even so hardly a sensible thing to mix the supporters like that . It’s stayed generally well behaved but could have ended up with all sorts of problems. Don’t understand what was going on there . They need to look at that

They should have been down to 9 men, and we should have scored 6 (missed penalty, Richarlison goal line header, Bryan open goal at the end).

We didn’t, but we’re still top of our group, and we still won after dominating the game.

Don’t be such an absolute blouse.
They weren't. We were at risk of capitulating a 2 goal lead to a poor 10 man frankfurt.

Play like that against a decent opponent, and we will eventually get punished.

I was at the game last night. The first half was the first time this season that Ive really enjoyed how we play. It was relentless, with Kane holding up the ball brilliantly and Son running into space, Richarlison causing absolute havoc with his pace and strength.

Last 10 minute damas aside, the second half was comfortable and Harry will always be forgiven for missing a penalty given his stellar record to date.

On the Emerson thing, as Ive said many many times, I cannot fathom why we are playing him (and I say this as someone who is half Brasilian) but that is Conte's call and we simply have to respect it. I thought he was poor yesterday, but unti we see someone else play there, he's what weve got.

Lastly, I sincerely hope the "whispers" about Spence dont then become "SC fact". I have seen nothing definitive that shows me that Spence is having difficulty following instructions etc Lets see how the situation develops and whether he gets a run out in the cups.

I take it you've got access to the training ground to make that assessment about Spence.
