I don't get how Conte "trusts" Royal but doesn't want to lose so won't pick Doherty and doesn't think Spence is ready to play.

There is just no way Spence or Doherty would do worse than Royal.

How do you know that? I saw a fair bit of Spence last season and generally he's poor at defending. Positionally he has a huge amount to learn and I can completely understand why Conte isn't playing him yet. Doherty has been abysmal for us save for about 5 games, so after a bad injury it isn't an enormous stretch to imagine his form is very bad in training.

Nor is Royal but I wont be debating the point. the real root cause here is that we didnt bring in a RWB and by that I mean someone that Conte was actually going to use. I think he was going to use Lucas but his injury affected things. I just find the whole RWB to be absolutely fucking strange - we all knew we needed one as a priority, hell I even said that.. just blimey.

Given where we are though, im not really surprised by it being the same team - Royal will be off for a few PL games so make sense to play him. He isnt the only issue we have and isnt the only reason we arent playing that well.
