Agree even Harry was quoted saying we wanted Barry and Roque Santa Cruz(shudder) but they went to Man City for the money. Even though they weren't in the champs league and we were.

I don't see anything changing - we can't compete with the big boys on wages so will probably lose out on players to Man U or Chelsea even if they don't make the champs league and we do.

Who did we attract when we were last in it!? No one. We won't have anymore money to spend. It will be more about keeping our current players and enjoying tues/weds nights

When we got into the Champions League it was only the Champions League money that we gained. Rightly or wrongly (wrongly in my opinion) Levy decided not to spend that, but that money alone wouldn't have got us very far anyway (maybe 1 or 2 additional players).

Next season, with the tv money, it's a bit different. We'd have the money AND the prestige of being in the tournament, not to mention a much more stable manager situation.

Of course whether that money would be made available is a completely different issue. The Bale money was. No real reason to assume the tv money wouldn't be.

Yes we finish 5th most years, which is ok, but will we be in such a position next year?
What about our team this year (the best team we've had since the days of Hoddle and Ardiles), suggests that we're not going to improve. As I said before, year in year out some people kept saying, "we'll be lucky to get top 6 this year" yet we consistently do, with I might ad, inferior teams to what we currently have.

Tv money is going right back into the stadium. That would have been planned. Weather the bonus of potential champs league money is made available I don't know

Not for a long while has this quote from Sir Bill been more relevant...

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

Never settle for second best.

Won't matter as much as you think if we continue to see Poch improve players at the rate he has under his coaching methods.

And we're clearly seeing how much more important the collective is as opposed to a collection of individual talents.

Most of us have never seen us win the league....

Next season City,Chelsea,Utd and possible Lpool will be a force...this may be our last chance for many years.

Fuck cashing out.

This gets said every single season. Next season City and Chelsea will have new managers, so will Utd more than likely and Liverpool have a complete rebuild to do.

Yes they will all spend money but that hasn't helped any of them this season.

I voted to take 2nd. As nice as believing we can win the league is we have only finished 4th twice in the PL era and played CL football once. With the extra revenue from CL football I'd back us to kick on next season over the rest.

Second for me. You'd have to be crazy to take anything else considering our recent history and long term plans. Second this year would be a fantastic platform for a charge for the title next year.

Am I honestly reading this right? We're in with a shot at our first title since before most of us were born and people are happy to take 2nd!? I hope the players don't have the same mentality or we'll end up 6th.

Think that's a big assumption. Levy didn't invest the Bale money in the stadium. The stadium has a finance plan which I think was in place before the new to deal was done.

I suppose we won't know though until we get there.

Second would represent a remarkably successful season.

But no.

Winning the league is a genuine possibility. Winning the Premier League. Something Arsenal haven't done in over a decade, and something Liverpool have never done. We'd have genuine, bona fide bragging rights for the first time in multiple generations.

If that's a genuine possibility (and it is with this team, this momentum, and this team spirit) then why would you throw that away for the opportunity to simply have an excellent season? We should finish top four regardless, and qualify for the CL.

Nobody remembers a team finishing second as anything other than 'the nearly year'.

just listened to the fighting cock podcast, and they ask if you could, would you cash out now? Take second or do you think we can win it? Majority seems to be on playing on. I keep thinking we gonna mess things up, but then rational that by thinking our blip was the first 4 games of the season, and we are playin well week in week out. I think we will be top 2 come end of season with a real chance at first. Play on I say.

There's usually been a point later in the season where our form really dips. Fortunately I think we've already had it.

After smashing the spammers, we had a noticeable dip in the quality of our performances. Dropped four points against Chelsea and West Brom, followed by that loss to Newcastle (so just the two points out of a possible 9).

The key difference, however, is that whilst our performances continued to be fairly mediocre for the next few games, we managed to beat Southampton, Norwich, and Watford on the bounce.

I honestly think those 6 games were the low point of our season in terms of how we actually played (hopefully it will stay that way), yet we still managed a reasonable 11 out of 18 points in that period.

Ironically, when we regained form (away to Everton - one of our best performances of the season) we only got one point from the next 6. As we all know, that was promptly followed by 4 Prem wins in a row (and 6 wins in total).

It shows genuine consistency in terms of building points - even when the performances aren't great. It also suggests that we've learnt to come back stronger after the occasional defeat.

The game is about glory

Go for first.

Otherwise anywhere in the top 4 would be great.

Player sales go back for manager to use. We haven't used any other funds for over 7 years now
