Just a thought. But was it Ramos who turned Baptista from a CM in to a top striker in spain?

KPB is of a similar ilk to him, maybe he'll get a few games there.

I was thinking today that he'll play KPB there - and a few work friends seemed to be of the same opinion

if (fingers crossed it dosent) the worst happens then i reckon we will see taarabt being used as a number 10 style striker, more floating between the lines

Since Clive's been hauling him off with depressing regularity for the stiffs, fucked off by his showboating and lack of end (or any) product, I hope not.

I think that Ramos is much more likely to go for a formation change should we have serious striker problems, as has been already suggested. Something with AM's...?

Taarbat will come around, I kind of liked him on the left...he's certainly got flair, though to what end we have yet to see.

KPB isn't any sort of striker. I've seen nothing so far that would lead me to believe he is striker material. In general rotating four strikers doesn't work especially if the club isn't that successful.
It worked for Man Utd when they won the treble but Solskjaer was happy to sit on the bench and eventually Teddy left because he wasn't getting any games.

I'd like us to get someone like Baptista who can play upfront or in midfield rather than a fourth out and out striker, they would be used far more if they can play more than one position.

This could be a real chance for one of the youngsters to break through. Could be ideal role for Taarabt if he can make the grade.

I'm with Mullers, we don't need a fourth striker, we need a midfielder / striker who can play in the hole, pop up with some goals and is flexible. Very difficult to keep four out and out strikers happy.

Why will we need a fourth striker?

We've got 3 first class strikers. If, by some terrible luck we have 2 injured (or suspended) then we'll probably play 4-5-1 with Steed playing off the front man.

We might get away with it for the rest of this season but over a whole season with all the cup competitions it would be too risky to go with 3 in case 1 got a long term injury and the other 2 had to play in every match .That is unless we signed an out and out winger and we could play both him and Lennon with 1 central striker. Even then that should work with Bent or Berbatov but I dont see Keane as a lone central striker .

I thought Steed's prefered position was playing off the front 1 or 2, good call

No. Gone are the days (at least for now) where we have to accommodate 4 strikers who really should be Prem starters.

Ramos has a dynamic enough squad and enough tricks up his sleeve should we run thin on strikers.

Agreed

I would have thought the recent demise of proven goalscorers Mido, Bent & Defoe would have made people realise that we cannot accomodate 4 strikers and keep them sharp.

Agree we can't keep four first team strikers happy and sharp, but I concerned there is no reserve pressing to make the breakthrough.

And 4-5-1 only works if you have width, which is not our strong suit.

Or Juande could bring someone in on loan - for EPL games at least.

What? Get rid of Defoe then scrap around to borrow a striker? Sounds very much like short sighted mismanagement here!

I suspect that 'arry's bid for Defoe must have come in very late and was too good to refuse. It's difficult to believe we would have sold Barney otherwise.

This will all change once Bale comes back, considering we signed Gilberto another wide left player, aswell as Hutton who seems to get forward quite a bit, and then there's Lennon playing ahead of Hutton.

Ramos might not have as much width as he would of liked to start with, but once he's had a chance to properly cement his playing philosophy I'm sure we will see Spurs playing with alot more width, as the Scum game gave us a taste of.

But they already knew that while Defoe didn't sign a contract there was a possibility that he would be sold rather than let him go on a free. Also if Ramos rated Barney that highly he would have at least made the bench while Bent is out with an injury.

In the unlikely event of having only one fit striker we can always go 4-3-3 with Malbranque and lennon filling the other 2 forward positions.

Then we might actually be able to accomodate the Hudd in midfield.

I like this - plus I think we finally have the defense to cope with such a formation.

I was thinking that Ramos may use an attacking midfielder as his 4th striking option should the need ever arise, very likely to be Jenas IMO.

if we have used very good wide players whom can provide the strikers with good crosses, i think Tomas Pekhart can do well for us. He is tall and very good header, it is nothing to do at all with his form in reserve team.
