In all this negativity i would say that for quite a while now we have had great reviews from the people on the guardian football weekly podcast and The Totally football show. James Horncastle was saying some great things and Jonathan Wilson as well who is usually a highly negative person at times. In the alternative media so basically not crappy sky sports and click bait The Mirror , Spurs have been highly spoken of and it was even stated that PSG and Madrid should have been playing football like Spurs have.
The stupid thing is, in this "article" Stevie G doesn't say sign Wanyama. It says this:
Steven Gerrard says Liverpool should sign Tottenham star Victor Wanyama.
Reds coach Gerrard reckons Jurgen Klopp's side need a midfield enforcer to protect their shaky back four.
And the former England star says Tottenham midfielder Wanyama would be the ideal addition for the Reds this summer.
“I think Liverpool would benefit from a monster of a centre-midfielder, a holder,” Gerrard said.
“A Wanyama-type player who does sit in and is disciplined, and he would give more protection to the back four.”
Absolute terrible reporting.
Paul Merson said:I know Aguero won't be playing as many minutes as the others with the Champions League becoming the focus for Manchester City, but I don't know anyone else who can get four goals in a match on multiple occasions
Kane has proved he can score big goals in big games but Tottenham don't blow teams away like Manchester City.
I love Merson's predictions on who will win the Golden Boot. His pick is Aguero - nothing wrong with that, but his reasoning gave me a laugh:
Liverpool, you say? This reminds me that I saw a salty letter from a Liverpool fan this week which appeared to suggest we only ever win games by a goal or two. I know rival fans have selective memories but that’s ridiculous given how many wallopings we’ve doled out in the past 2 and a half seasons.
I was thinking of the comparison between that goal and the Liverpool pen decision.
Juves goal.
Definite offside.
Goal stood.
No media attention at all.
Poch doesn't mention it.
Players don't mention it.
Level of importance in match- massive.
Liverpool pen.
Debatable decision at best.
No goal scored anyway.
Media shit storm batters the UK for 5 days and nights.
Klopp foaming at the mouth like they only got a draw because we got awarded a pen, a pen we didn't bloody score.
Players and fans spouting shit to all who'll listen until after 5 days Shit Storm Klopp finally disipates somewhere over the Atlantic.
Importance of decision on game and result- fkin none whatsoever.
Personally I think we could do with kicking up a shit storm ourselves every now and then.
Exactly, but the perception from the media is that a definition of a selling club is us and this has become hard to shift even in-light of all the evidence elsewhere showing we far being alone on this one.In the last three and a half seasons Liverpool have had to sell Suarez, Sterling and Coutinho. You never hear them described as a selling club.
The reporting is ok enough, but the the headline writer’s job is to maximise clicks. By mentioning Wanyama personally, they get every Spurs fan, as well as every Liverpool fan to click on the article. Basic stuff. Just as, every time we play one of the other big clubs, stories are guaranteed to appear about players from one wanting to join the other. Clickbait.
Our past history as a selling club has become a mindset for most of media and pundits alike. It will be difficult to break this mindset irrespective of success, as these half witted twats will always default to believing we are and always will be a selling club.
We have not been a selling club at all. It is a myth that fits the hack media narrative. Arsenal have sold more key players than we have, are in steady decline and yet don't get the same stick. Clichy, Sagna, Toure, Van Persia, going back further they also sold Henry, Overmars and Anelka. We have sold Bale, modric, berbatov, keane and walker! We made huge profit and continued to improve!
