Mods, if making this was inappropriate and just needs to be merged with with 17/18 thread with a thread title change, I beg your mercy and ask that my lashes be kept to under 50 as they hurt so damn much. @Dougal seems to just get a bit too much pleasure from them....

Anyway, let's kick it off, hopefully keeping random arguments about literally everything and anything to a minimum please which is what 70% of the old thread was!

From RedCafe:

-This'll go one of two ways. We'll grind yet another 1-0 win against this lot, or we get humiliated.

-"I'll save you guys a bunch of time. We're not going to win.

-Poch's team talk..

"Lad's, it's United."

-Can we just start with Lukaku and Fellaini up top from the get go? Hoofing it to them is all we know how to do so let's just try and build around it.

-I'd be happy with 3 shots on target never mind 3 points.

-Will be a deserved thrashing 1-4.

-Alli and Kane have more touches in the opponents penalty box (31) than the entire Manchester United squad (30). Tottenham have a total of 75 touches so far.

-Can we get Smalling back in, actually does well against Kane.

-We'll probably win this despite the shambles today, I can see a switch to 3-5-2 with Fellaini and Smalling coming in, obviously is Sanchez is fit he'll be up top with Lukaku rather than Lingard.

-Pretty confident we will win this one actually. Mourinho will want a response after today's abysmal showing. And we are pretty solid at home. If we lose this one, I think there's a pretty good chance Jose will be gone after the internationals.

All pretty negative though a few saying that a change in the line up and they might be able to handle it and respond back to what they feel is a decent fixture for them historically.

They also have a 9 page thread on our stadium here http://www.redcafe.net/threads/spurs-new-stadium.440833/

Edit on 22nd August:

Between the fatalism of the United fans and the clueless claim from that WHU fan I think you get a pretty good flavour of what football fans in general are like on the Internet.

Hopefully Matic isnt fit for them. Im not convinced by that Fred, he doesnt look that special based on the brighton game.

Fred wasn't special against Leicester either. Charged about all over the place, put in a couple of messy challenges and didn't look very tactically aware.

Matic still being out is potentially key for us. I'll feel a lot more confident if he is.

Matic and Sanchez being unavailable would be a bonus.

We always bottle it when we're expected to beat a top 6 team away though so I'm not confident.
Before anyone mentions Chelsea last year, we weren't expected to win

We weren't expected to win against any or our rivals away from home

I think the key for us is what's in the players heads, we seem to look beaten from kickoff. If Poch can instill it into their heads that Man Ure are very beatable and instill confidence in them then we should be ok, but the mental side of football is a very difficult thing to get right.

Not very often any of the top 6 are favorites to win away from home with the possible exception of Man City recently.
Be a brave man to bet a win on the away team.

United are on their knees, we've perhaps started better than "experts" and many of us perhaps expected.
If we go and win, which we're over due IMO, our tails will very definitely be up for a while. The lame transfer window will start to be forgotten and the delay to the stadium becomes inconsequential.

Do Liverpool at Wembley and.....

Arsenal are playing West Ham at the weekend. A lame 0-0 for that and us to beat United put's us 8 points clear of both of them.

Arsenal last season, we were favourites.
Also Utd last season, a lot of people were very confident we were going to beat them

Arsenal last season Kane wasn't fit he's just come back from Injury and for the Utd game he was Injured and missed the match, I don't know who was expecting us to win those matches but they were misguided.
