I never listen to talksport but thought I would give a try this morning , tried talksport 2 and realise why I don't bother listening , according to the two twits on there there is no place for Dele in the team so he is on his way out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a friend who thinks the same, he can't seem to fathom that it's a squad game now, and having strength in depth means we can rotate.

Really glad we are being careful with Dele. It can be irritating but we are seeing with Lamela now what a fully fit player can do. Dele clearly wasn’t fit last season and he is so young still we need to think of the future rather than just a handful of games. Dele remains one of the jewels in the team

Anton Ferdinand is doing some punditry on SSN. For anyone who hasn’t seen him do this before, imagine Rio Ferdinand had a stroke and could only mutter one word a second, most of which are ‘umm’ and ‘err’ and ‘umm’ again. Genuinely he’ll do one full decent sentence every 3 minutes.

I assume it’s his first time so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt but fuck me it’s difficult to watch.

Tim Cahill was just as bad on MOTD the other week .Sounded like he was reading a script but had forgotten to bring his glasses.

It's MOTD so don't rule it out, it's an extremely rehearsed programme.

Troy Deeney was on Sky at the weekend and couldn't complete a sentence without 'literally' in it. Every 15 seconds, literally.

Yeah I know that, but most of them can somewhat pretend to be talking off the cuff, but Cahill was very obviously reading it and seemed to pause between every word like he could barely make out what the teleprompter was saying. Not a natural pundit at all. Makes you wonder how these people get the gig in the first place. All about who you know I supose.

I have no disrespect for ex footballers who don't speak well on the tele, I wouldn't expect a great speaker like Stephen Fry to be a good footballer, there's no shame in it but maybe it's not the career for some of them.

I watched it also and soon understood why we hardly ever see him on tv, the guy just can't talk.

I think if you’re going to do a job that requires you to speak in front of a camera, even if you are an ex footballer with poor literacy having left school at 14, at least take some pride in it and pay for coaching to improve. It’s not like these guys don’t have the money, and you’d think men who reached the pinnacle of their profession through sacrifice and dedication to improvement would not drop their standards so horrendously.

If they can’t do that, then maybe pundit teams should include non ex footballers, just very avid football followers who are able to speak and present well.

Theo Walcott comes across well and is quite eloquent. He seems to do this bizarre thing when presented with a question: he considers what's been asked and then provides a reasoned response. Renegade.

It could be just camera nerves and after a few goes they'll be alright.

So how many goes does Paul Merson need before he goes from illiterate baboon to John Simpson?
That's below the belt...As much as I get the North London rivalry, I take my hat off to Merson for keeping on the straights. You get the sense he'll be totally out of it without a job in football and to be honest I'm happy football has found room for all types though needs to improve on other areas.

They would all undergo media training by Sky Sports (or whoever) before being put in front of the cameras. But it isn’t like an exam you have to pass or anything, they have the training, they have practice and then they are eased into it.

Like anything else, some take better to it than others. Some are more at ease, smoother and more natural and what their actual opinions might be aren’t actually a consideration providing they aren’t outrageous or anything. This is why there are good pundits, bad pundits and average pundits.

What makes me laugh is the non stop vitriol handed out to pundits for their opinions by people who have no problem posting copious amounts of shit on SC themselves. This is why I don’t take much of anything they say to heart. We all come out with rubbish from time to time.

And don’t make me laugh with that ‘they get paid’ bollocks because I guarantee if I were to give you a couple of quid to stop posting rubbish you’d be unable to do it :D
