I think that was more I want to stay at West Ham for now than I don't want to play for you and probably went for other interested parties too plus he's playing in the prem and doesn't need to rush his decisions which is a pretty sound attitude I think.

Also worth remembering he was essentially on a youth contract before, his salary went from £3k a week to £30k.

Unless he wanted to leave West Ham right now he'd have been a fool to not sign a new contract.
