The annoying thing is all supporters of other teams have had all this ready for when we lost, but doubt they would of mentioned it if we won the thing
Southampton fan was bizarrely trying to lay the blame at Dier's feet last night. Literally the only player he named and shamed. Utterly bizarre.
I've been surprised at the praise for both Henderson and Sterling by pundits throughout the tournament. I think they've been the poorest players to regularly start for England.Henderson I'm sorry isn't international class the only forward ball he has is a looping long ball but I suppose I will be shut down with stats.

Whoscored stats seem to agree with us as well - sorted from highest to lowest overall rating:

Stats aren't everything, of course, but they seem to indicate that Henderson hasn't had the best of tournaments. A side that wants to win the world cup needs a better midfielder IMO.
In fairness to Sterling I thought he was played out of position he did a lot of sprit chasing for himself and Kane tbh. I thought Southgate should of adjusted Alli's position to play nearer Kane and put Sterling wide in his position played at City.
I agree with this. It felt in a lot of games that, by trying to accommodate all three of Sterling, Dele and Lingard, two of them were having to play a role which isn't natural to them and takes away some of their attacking threat. Lingard was the best performer of the three during the tournament, but I think he's the only one who plays a very similar role for his club. Going forward I'd like to see us play only two of the three - and it may be Dele who misses out more than the other two - but in trying to shoe-horn Dele and Sterling into roles that don't suit them (or Kane) this is one area where Southgate is a little guilty of repeating the mistakes of previous England managers.
Of course, the person who could have done Dele's role more naturally in Russia is Oxlade-Chamberlain but his injury scuppered that.
I think Henderson played pretty well to be honest. He moved well and gave defenders an option most of the time and got the ball forward more than i've seen him do before.I've been surprised at the praise for both Henderson and Sterling by pundits throughout the tournament. I think everyone acknowledges that this is the area where England can improve most, but I didn't think Henderson had a bad tournament.A side that wants to win the world cup needs a better midfielder IMO.
Imagine if we had someone with pace who did have an end product, I think that's the dilema with Sterling, it's a little unfair to condemn him for what he can't do when he did what he can do as best he could. All the shit Sterling gets, which I can understand because of his end product, people don't see/understand how much problem defences have coping with his pace. It does create opportunities we just aren't clinical enough to finish them. Oh and Harry Kane playing as a AM instead of being the lead player does not help one iota.
