Wonder how many of those would change their picks if they knew that Fabreglass had gone and Nasri was as good as gone.

taking emotions out of it, oh and removing my blinkers then i believe we will end a solid 6th place. as one poster mentioned Liverpool were at one stage 13 points behind us and they ran us close at the end for 5th.

they will have a better start than last year that is for sure. some of your comments are reminder of opposition teams who wrote us off after our bad start 3 years ago under Ramos and then we went and got 4th the next season. so liverpool can do it this year.

What is so suprising that we are not tipped to be in the top4? the top 3 places imo, are sorted, that leaves us ,the scum and the scousers fighting for the last CL place.
we have done fuck all to suggest we are busting a gut to get it, we are fannying about chasing lost causes once agian, if we fail to get a decent striker in asap then the opening title 'Mugs' will be about us, and most certainly the end of Luka and Bale very soon, i can't see us hanging on to them for much longer if all we buy this year is Brad.

How sooo? It was the same strike force that got us in the top 4 before :bang:, yes they must inprove on last seaon but dont talk shit.

I walk this world totally alone....

....noone here remembers that the strikers who got us top 4 included Gudjonsen . Last season our strikeforce was depleted by his departure and they failed dismally .

Oh I remember him and liked his hold up play, it was something we lack greatly but he only played 11 times in the league for us and not all full games. Our strike force had a bad season last season no doubt, yes we can get a better striker but they ain't that bad.

I know they say it is wise to overestimate your own weaknesses, and weigh the enemy mightier than they be...but this is fricking hilarious.
Oh, poor us, poor Spurs...everyone else is soooooo great and we are shi'ite...seriously, we'll be lucky to fiish 10th in the Beyond Rhyme and Reason League:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Get a fookin' grip:-|

What makes you think we are good enough to finish top four this season? We failed to finish in the top four last season, and were pushed right to the end for fifth place. Liverpool have strengthened their team from last season, while we have so far signed a forty year old goalkeeper. So far we have not improved our team one bit from last season, all the talk over the past year and a half has been the need to bring in a proven quality striker, where is he? How can we except to finish in the top four if we don't invest in our first team and continually move forward. IMHO if we start the season with the team we have now, we'll finish sixth!

There are many, many factors that make me believe we are good enough to finish in the top 4 this season.
For a start, our young team is going to have naturally improved from last seasons' experiences, including CL experiences.
Secondly, we don't have to learn to cope with CL this season, or cope with it - no, Citeh have to do that, but it will be really, really easy for them, even though it clearly affected us, becuase...well...they are great or summit:roll:
Thirdly, we were faced with the problem of teams in the bottom third of the table really shutting up shop on us. I have no doubt whatsoever that we will cope with this better next season.
Fourthly, we were adapting to a totally new tactical set-up to accomodate VDV, and I, for one, cannot believe that even the strikers we had last year could perform so ineptly, or so ineptly with VDV, as last season.
Fifthly, the weight of expectations has been removed from us - and that may be of benefit psychologically.
Sixthly, I really, really do not believe it is wise basing your assessment on us not buying anyone else, because I doubt this state of affairs will remain so until 1st September. This is another area where Spurs fans tend to do the poor us just a little bit too much. It is true that we do not have the pull of a United, or, now :)evil:) a Citeh. But we still have a pretty big fooking pull, FFS:bang:

As for this mighty Liverpool have strengthened so much they will steamroller right over us :bs: - well, that's exactly what it is. They have improved, yeah. But they have been improving a decidedly poor squad. They are at a totally different stage of rebuilding to us. We are trying to improve on an already good squad, they are trying to build a squad of reasonable quality in the first place.

Its totally impulsive IMO, just look at the headlines and the sensationalism of all the spending, particularly Liverpool....what a boring wank fest.

We'll have no CL this season, so there goes a massive distraction. Another thing they keep failing to grasp, is continuity - not just strengthening. We have a settled side who will only get better, with the likes of Sandro featuring over a full season albeit he's injured for a bit.

We still have 3 weeks to go in the window anyway and if we get Adebayor I expect us to push for third.

This...exactly.

i think chelsea will win the league just coz villa boas is amazing!

He may be absolutely amazing in the EPL...but, equally, he may flounder, it may all go tits up, and he may be gone by Christmas having wrecked their season.
None of us know, yet, which it will be.
But anyone who assumes that he will just step straight up from the Portugese league (and Europa cup) and be a run-away success is incredibly naive. Sorry.

Taking blinkers off, and removing emotion...I believe we could finish anywhere from 6th> as I believe each of the teams we are competing with (including United, Chelsea and Citeh in that list), have scope for having an incredibly bad season, or an incredibly good one, and that includes us. I think it will be very tight at the top.

They finished 6th last season and 7th the season before. How people can seriously think they will leap 5/6 places in a season is beyond me. They have some good players but the players they signed this summer are not going to win them the title and their players last season did not even get them into the top 5.

Liverpool fans always over-estimate their chances. My mate who supports them has tipped them to win the league pretty much every season for years when they've been lucky to finish 4th. I've said the same thing, how is a team that's finishing 4th going to suddenly become title contenders. Actually it's not even the position, it's the number of point they'd have to make up.

Shearer is a bit cheeky picking 3 teams to finish 4th but I can see it being a 4 way race for 4th.

I actually think we've got the players to do it but they have to be used in the right way and that comes down to managerial decisions. No good having talented players like Pavlyuchenko and Sandro when you pick Jenas and Crouch ahead of them because they're "T'riffic lads". With the right players and the right strategy we could do very well, in theory we're already stronger than last season. However we'll squander that if we don't rest Bale and VDV who were overplayed last season and results suffered. I would understand if we had a weak squad but we have an amazing squad that are just paid to watch.

The pundits can see this. They're not looking at our potential but what we did with what we had last season. I'm sure they're expecting Crouch to start every game like he has for the last two seasons.

I'm fed up with people thinking Defoe is going to have a great season. I hope he does but there's nothing in previous seasons to suggest that. People point to two seasons ago as evidence, but it's more likely to say that season was a blip given his performance in the rest of his career. Then you have to remember that his total was boosted by getting 5 goals in one game. Even if you're generous and say that doesn't diminish the result he has never scored more than 18 league goals a season and that was when he was at Bournemouth and the season he moved from West Ham. His real average is around 10 league goals a season, half what we need. Crouch is about 8. Keane was 13 before he left for liverpool so it's far more likely that he'd find his old form than Defoe would discover new form. Pav's average is about 7 but it's important to take into account that he starts only half the games the other players do. If we extrapolate, it would give Pav an average of 14 league goals a season.

For a bunch of experts it sure does feel like they have oversimplified how they calculate their predictions somewhat. The rule, given what they have written, is: finishing position 2011 + new signings = finishing position 2012. While both of these factors are highly important, it seems that they have failed to incorporate variables like new manager (hence new system), unity of squad, difficulty of getting new players to understand each others style of play etc, etc... The huge factor we have in our favour is that we have a group of players that know each other, and well at that. It will be interesting to see how these predictions change a few games in.

Im loving all the bollocks that these so called experts are sprouting about us.Why? because every time they do the odds on us finishing in the top four get longer and longer. the longer they get the more I pile in.
Liverpool are a pile of dung as someone else said the only two players they have bought who would get into our side are their strikers the others will just about help to get them into 6th.
The Scum are imploding...they have lost their way. Would give an arm an a leg for Van Raper but none of the others without Fab and Nasri. Could finish 5th.
Chelscum getting older and slower by the day .They will have more and more injuries and have made no further quality signings. The CL is their major target and will distract them from the league. Also pinned all their hopes on signing Mod which they wont and don't have a plan B...4th at best.
The two Mancs will scrap for first and second which leaves us for third.
We are going to be a better and stronger team then last season.
We will strengthen...Ade on A years Loan...Damiano in January probably Diarra, and maybe another striker.
Bale ,Sandro,Modric,VDV,BAe.Lennon, all players who would get into any other top four team.Kaboul Gallas King Dawson as good if not better group of center backs as anyone else has.
On his day Gomes is top class one or two mad aberrations apart,
Walker unlimited potential.
With those replacements above we will finish third and give the Mancs a run for their money too......COYS

The important words being "so far". Liverpool have bought Downing, Henderson and Adam who wouldnt get in our first team, Carrol and Suarez who would, but they lost Torres? In preseason they have looked utter shit!

You have no idea what the managment are trying to do, you are presuming that we wont bring in the players I accespt we need. If we have Ade in the bag, he alone makes Liverpools signings look like an utter waste of cash. I dont want my club pissing money on players that wont make a difference, I want CLASS! Class isnt bought easy!

Change your deodorant, then.

Yes, I remember the solitary league goal Gudjohnsen scored. For you, it clearly outweighs Defoe's 18, Keane's six, Pav's 5 five and Crouch's eight. And it was because we let him go that the others flopped?

Yes, of course.
