Wow. Some of this thread sums up everything that's wrong with SC at the moment. Basically, Harry tried to sign one of the best strikers around and the usual suspects are using even this to abuse him again. Unbelievable. If he said he tried to sign Andy fucking Booth out of retirement then have a fucking go. As SP said, it's not even new news. Embarrassing and we're not even out of page 1 yet.
Maybe, just maybe, he wanted to buy him outright.
How could we have bought him outright? The whole footballing world knows Tevez is one of the highest paid players in the game. If we can't afford to sign Adebayor for a relatively low transfer fee but wages of £200k p/w, how on earth are we supposed to pull of a £40m+ transfer fee with wages of £200k p/w for a player who'd inevitably spit his dummy out after 18 months about being homesick and wanting to leave?

And it is news though, isn't it? We're at the end of April, in the midst of a run of 1 win in 9, having been humiliated by our rivals in the FA Cup semi final. And while he should be telling the world what the problem is, that he has made costly mistakes, what they're doing to resolve it and how everybody at the club is completely focussed on the next game, he's giving interviews about how we tried to sign a player that would have been absolutely impossible to sign.

Our club is in turmoil at the moment. We want to see signs that everybody is 100% focussed on nothing other than beating Blackburn on Sunday. If he's not giving interviews about that, he shouldn't be giving interviews at all right now.

Yes and this is the point . harry bringing this up looks like him providing a red herring headline...with a hint of an excuse attached ie 'we tried for Tevez..we didn't get him , this is partly why we are knackered and doing so badly , not my fault , please employ me England '

All we need from him are growls of defiance about how determined we are to do everything possible to get wins in our next 4 games .

How many more transfer windows would Redknapp have to be here until he 'attempts' to buy Messi?

The fact is this was well known at the time. It's a nothing story now and serves no purpose.

I was a big HR supporter right up until now and still respect what he has achieved, but saying we tried to sign Tevez now, if it was said now and not three months ago is tantamount to desperation. "look look we tried to sign player x".

The truth is we didn't. We didn't get any top target at all or any suitable plan B.

I don't want to hear about who we almost signed, I want to see the focus put onto getting results. The same players got us to third and the same players are throwing it away... If they are thinking of signing elsewhere they can fecking rot in the reserves, at least that's how angry I feel, even if it made no sense. They had it in them to get CL for spurs and they and HR are throwing it away with both hands.

God it reads like an interview along the lines: "oh we tried to get fourth, but we just don't have the money to compete with these other triffic clubs"... Like Newcastle eh...

So angry right now, I've been trying to stay away from SC, but sorry, today I am here to vent and HR deserves as much venting now as he did praise earlier.

Anyone who remembers what I have said in the past will know that I have usually always defended HR, so this is not me jumping on the bandwagon, this current form is simply atrocious.

Sort it out someone, starting today.

seems like another 'not me guv' excuse from arry, the fact is we could never sign tevez due to wages, how about arry spent some time scouting the cisse's of this world in jan instead, a gem who was gettable....gutted he is still in charge tbh

This, this and this again. I've hardly been coming on here over the last week or so because of some of you embarrassments.

As I have stated its been a good journey with HR, but you have to admit that the current situation is not really acceptable and that anything other than fourth means that this season was a failure?! Add the England fiasco on top...

If this story is a rehash of an old article then that's fine it isn't worth discussion, but if this was or had been a recent article you would have to question it.

Let's just get the new bloody stadium done! Then after a few years we won't have to hear the ''we tried but couldn't afford his wages'' excuse anymore!

More from Redknapp on this story: "Using a single strand of pubic hair recovered from 2010, we tried to clone Messi in January. It didn't work. We signed Saha instead"

Can't say I disagree with that BUT...........The 'Harry says' shit rears its ugly head yet again and TBH we always knew it would. yet when we were flying, he never seemed to say one single thing that upset people. We didn't have a thread like it for ages. Funny that. The whole 'Look at what he's gone and said now' thing just wasn't happening.

Now that he's a **** again, as soon as he gives an interview, no matter what the content, it gets seen in the worst possible light.

Out of interest, did you see the interview? I very much doubt Harry has just said, for a laugh, 'Oh, by the way, we tried to sign Tevez'. Someone must have asked him a question about it because it's far too random to just bring up now considering we're not playing City. He's just answering a question SHOCKER!

Re your first point, I imagine he thought we could get him on the cheap because of the situation he was in with City. Mancini had said he'd never play again for them so we could've been looking at a cut price fee and Tevez may have taken a wage cut just to play football again. Unlikely and has since proved mission impossible, but I can't believe people are having a go for him trying.

A&C's dead right. Harry had millions of similar interviews when we were winning and very few threads appeared about them. Can't we just have one Harry's Fucking Interviews thread and shove them all in there.

Especially in January when we were still up there with City, why would they have strengthened us even more? And aren't you allowed only one loan from the same EPL club? Because we sure as anything didn't have £40mill to spend.

A simple "Yes" or "No" answer to this questin please.

Do you think Carlos Alberto Tévez was a realistic target for Tottenham Hotspur FC bearing in mind Manchester City FC wanted £40m for him, he's on a reported £200k a week, we already have a player on loan from City hence could not loan him and finally we were within touching distance of City therefore a direct rival....?

Most if the time I just ignored his interviews, not because I felt they were bad, but most if the time HR plays the media game and never really says anything that I think is of note. Happy for him to do so too...

But articles like this make me mad in the current climate... I would get criticism from my boss if I said "oh but I almost did x y and z"

But yes A&C in general I agree with the statement.

No. But see my post above yours for the reasons Harry may have thought it was possible.
