We tried for Tevez in January

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed the club failed in an audacious bid to sign Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez in January.
Having fallen out with Roberto Mancini after apparently refusing to come off the bench at Bayern Munich, Tevez went AWOL for three months towards the end of last year and the City boss said the Argentina striker would not play for the club again.
It is not known whether Tevez would have been keen on a move to Spurs, who were then keeping pace with City in the Premier League title race, but a potential deal would not have happened anyway due to the forward's wage demands.
"I said to the chairman 'can you get me Carlos Tevez?'," said Redknapp.
"Daniel made some enquiries, but it wasn't doable. If he could have done it, he would have.
"He (Levy) would have loved Tevez, but it wasn't possible because his wages are £200,000 a week. It's not possible at Tottenham to buy him.
"He is a fantastic player. When he puts a shirt on he doesn't stop running, working, he's enthusiastic, he can play and he can score goals."

I am so fucking tired of excuses.

If Harry could not distract himself with a microphone for five fucking minutes we might be able to get this season relatively back on track from the trainwreck that has become.

I didn't even think this was news.
He said we would love to get him, and that Daniel would try, but the wages would probably be too much, way back, I think, in December.

I really have no idea how to respond to this....where's my 'banging my head off the wall' smiley when I need it!!

Seriously, what is he trying to achieve by revealing this. Why the fuck is Harry telling us this??? What purpose does it serve??

I can't even say that this clearly demonstrates our intent and shows that we are prepared to go all out for top players, because I seriously doubt that this audacious bid that we "failed" on amounted to any more than DL calling Citeh and promptly hanging up 5 seconds later when he realised it was never going to happen.

I can imagine him after the Euros once his England team have bombed out...

'We tried to get Tevez in but he's, well, he's Argentinian. So that was a no go'

I don't know what he achieves by telling us this?

Dan Levy: Hey, Sheikh, Baby...listen, M8, how much do you want for that there Tevez fella...yeah, yeah, him that looks like a Gargoyle?
Sheikh: You mean him we feck off. Him who play golf...no, no, not Craig Bellamy, the other one.
Dan Levy: Yeah, yeah...that one...will you take £5 million, we want to pay in stages...that okay with you.
Sheikh: Look, Daniel, I know British people think I'm a stupid sand-shoveller, but we sell him in Italy for £40 - £50 million.
Dan Levy: How about £8 m.
Sheikh: No good. We want to do business, we really do...I like you, Daniel, you and your plucky little Tottenham, we want you to finish higher than them :censored:s down the road, and we really could do with getting him off the wage bill...
Dan Levy: Why, how much you paying him?
Sheikh: £200,000.
Dan Levy: Is that a year, Sheikh Baby?
Sheikh: No, Daniel, a week.
Dan Levy: FARK <hangs up>
Sheikh: Daniel, you still want...Daniel, Daniel...you still there?

Wow. Some of this thread sums up everything that's wrong with SC at the moment. Basically, Harry tried to sign one of the best strikers around and the usual suspects are using even this to abuse him again. Unbelievable. If he said he tried to sign Andy fucking Booth out of retirement then have a fucking go. As SP said, it's not even new news. Embarrassing and we're not even out of page 1 yet.

Maybe, just like he thinks we're in 4th at the moment, Redknapp thought somehow you are allowed 2 players on loan from the same club now.

Tried for Tevez, got Saha!

This is the problem, Harry thought we needed to add a bit of magic to the side to help us to keep challenging but we ended up signing another old injury prone player that used to be good who's club and supporters couldn't wait to get rid of

Milan tried for Tevez too and failed. As I am sure a lot of clubs were on the phone to City enquiring.

Why bother though? It's pretty well known that any City player is going to be on pretty much double any of our top earners. Isn't Wayne Bridge picking up like 120k a week or something?

Another case of Harry "only buy from the Prem" Redknapp, if Levy was willing to spend the cash on Tevez then why did we not identify other more realistic strikers in January? Pathetic.

Its likely he did. And we failed to sign them (him). Which is probably why we signed Saha, we was possibly the fall-back option on deadline day.
