Tottenham to benefit from Jack Clarke Sunderland exit in January

Crystal Palace and Brighton have joined Burnley and three other Premier League clubs at looking to land Sunderland winger Jack Clarke – but it is Tottenham who could prove the big winners.

While Tottenham’s cut of a future sale has not been disclosed, it could reportedly be as high as 50%, meaning any transfer for the player would go some distance towards limiting their losses on the £10m they paid Leeds for the winger back in summer 2019.

When I read it, I thought 20% would be nearer the truth.

The transfer fee for his move to Sunderland was unconfirmed, but I would guess it was no more than 1/2 what we paid for him and no more than 1/3 of Sunderland's reported asking price. His value was always going to increase as soon as he started playing regularly, so a high sell-on clause would have been very fair and reasonable for both parties.

Completely agree mate. He just seemed to have something about him and I was gutted when we let him go, he was incredibly unlucky with the timing of his move.

His move to Sunderland seems to be a prime of example of "one step back, two steps forward". If a player is good enough, but not getting first-team opportunities at their PL club, dropping down to a lower division shouldn't hinder their career.

Completely agree mate. He just seemed to have something about him and I was gutted when we let him go, he was incredibly unlucky with the timing of his move.

Can see where you’re both coming from, but I think he’s benefited from dropping down a couple of divisions and coming up the leagues with Sunderland. Playing in a first team that you’re properly invested in can do a lot for youngsters. He’s done really well.

If we are all honest with ourselves, he’d have just stagnated had we kept him, until Ange came in there was no way he was going to get a fair shake here. Especially under the wig wearing joy thief.

Seen more than one comment that he's pretty much been the best player in the division. Fair play to him. Dropped down and has absolutely wrecked it and will end up with a Prem career off of his own efforts, and sadly no thanks to us!
