Won't believe anything until it's stamped, and for now I'm assuming Defoe will start up front against Newcastle.

I think that's a pretty safe assumption. Even if we sign someone tomorrow, it's asking a lot for them to be ready straightaway.

I suppose he might start Kane up front, but that would be the end of Defoe and we can't really afford to do that right now.

That is positive in one respect but still slightly concearned that we are only "hopeful" of sorting a huge issue 1 week before kick off. I fail to believe that any of our "rivals" would allow themselves to be in the same situation at this stage of pre-season.

Might be different with Ade, he hardly needs to be introduced or find out how his new team mates play?
As for fitness he looks like a natural to me.

Agreed and you do have to wonder if we are really rivals in there eyes considering the way we do our business.

We wait until the very last minute or until we reach dire straits then and only then we do anything its very poor to be honest.

Man City being relaxed about us being "rivals" saw us nab adebayor on loan with subsidized wages last season. I'm happy if they - or other teams - don't rate us. Even better when we beat 'em. (y)

Yeah, that time it worked in our favour, however you only have to go back a few years to when a transfer window has blown up in our faces (Frazier Campbellgate!)

My worry is that since then we have made remarkable strides in our development but with other teams upping the stakes we are on the precipice once more, and I really don't want to see us dip back down again. It's not a risk worth taking.

His outlook changers on adaily, sometimes bi-daily basis. So i'm not getting my hopes up just yet. So much in the balance.

Getting positivity from JJ is tough though, after the Sahin debacle he's been very cautious. The fact he's saying such things about Leandro is very promising.

At least all the itk's seem to be hinting towards a deal. Am I right in thinking AVB is looking to play a 4:2:3:1 or has he done that recently based on what's been available?

Didn't JJ say something about terms being agreed? I know the fee is going to be a potential stumbling block, but the fact that Leandro would be happy joining us is great news.

Nothing about terms agreed, just that Leandro is 'cool' with joining us. Which is the same thing i guess.

Dragon1 on FTL:
Re: Defoe
Defoe will be allowed to go
Once we get two forwards in
Has two yrs left on deal so last chance to cash in and really does not fit in to AVB system all that well

Player gets almighty hump when not starting so if we can what we need player wise and our value is met on jd which is north of ten by way he can go
Ade still likely to happen,re damao if you think Levys hard to deal with try dealing with international directors player will 100 per cent come and wages not issue but goalposts change daily ad they have on this deal on and off for the last. 18months
As I've said since may our net spend will end up being circa 20- 25 million absolute tops
he won't be sold till our incoming done
Shifting him ain't the issue we have interest it's getting our incoming biz done,Defoe happy to go any prem club where' he's guaranteed start
We get what we need he is off fact!
He wants to play he's like a broken record I'm 29 I need to play,he will be behind ade and whatever other forward we sign so third in line for one forward position and in jan won't be worth what he is now
Player would like to go,we will sell so do maths
Re: Luka
No change re luca,we ain't budging and valuation not met
Re: Enic
Found it interesting that was
Told this week Enic thought they'd be long gone by now with Levys pension all sown up,they never forsaw roman and city happening, thought we would have been established cl club with stadium all sorted long ago ,club has simply not hit the heights to be worth what they needed it to be to get out.

I think Adebayor is the one exception, you're right. I suppose if I'm worried about anything at the moment it's that we're setting ourselves up for problems if we can't complete a deal for Adebayor.

I'm confused. Defoe will be allowed to go when we get two strikers in...but he only has two years left on his deal? Does that mean we will extend his contract a further two years until we actually sign two strikers?

Glad to see we are such a disappointment for our owners and that they are really in it for the long haul.
