I think we will regret selling Townsend 3-4 years down the line.

The opposite is also valid. It is I agree a gamble. I can never make my mind up when it comes to Andros. 60/40 for a sell @£10m + addon (edit buybacks are expensive and they reduce the initial price bigtime)

Was he really that bad last season? I seem to remember him being the toast of the nation at one point.

We all know he is very rough around the edges but flogging him at this stage seems a little short sighted to me.

I know I'm in the minority here but I'd be sad to see Townsend go. He has so much potential if coached correctly - he didn't get called up for England for nothing (yeah I know it's England, but still...). Also, he's a local lad and a genuine Spurs fan. I know that shouldn't matter and if we get someone great in to replace him then fair enough, but I'd love a player like that to succeed here, like Ledley did.

If Poch doesn't rate him or is happy to let him go, then he knows best and I'll completely support Poch in doing so, but that doesn't mean it won't come back to embarrass us in the future. When all's said and done, he's got an amazing left foot and if he can develop a football brain, I think he'll be a great player. Big 'if' but certainly a possibility. He's still only about 12, he'd currently be a great squad player to have, in my opinion.

Don't understand the comment ' he has so much potential if coached correctly'. He has been at the club since he was a boy and has had the attention of heaven knows how many different coaches, Head Coaches, and managers, yet still he has these very significant basic flaws to his game. I just don't see why anyone suddenly expects him to change.

Indeed, but I'm not sure all the England media bullshit helped.
I like Andros but he must get his head up and bloody pass!

edit I think the Adros talk needs to move out of here.......or!

fucking right he does. And I for one would like to see how well he does when assisted with teammates making space and runs.

He wasn't the only one of our players incapable of finding a teammate in the final third last season.

Is there a rush to clear him out before he has kicked a ball in anger under Poch?

Well that's a great start to the weekend ITK already.

Feeling a little pessimistic on the MM deal now though. I hope it all gets properly sorted.

JJs comments + some of the other news are making me think this Anthony Martial rumour may actually have some legs. If we can sell Townsend for anywhere close to Martial's release clause and effectively swap out Townsend for Martial I think that's an incredible piece of business.

Fair point but it's possibly because he's been out on loan to lower league clubs around 10 times up until last year, so he hasn't had any stability whatsoever and the quality of coaches he's worked with during those loans maybe haven't been that great.

A season with Poch should have more benefit than being loaned to QPR. Look how much better Henderson was once Rodgers took over at Liverpool. That's just one example of many players who can improve significantly under different coaches.

But... I admit, it's more to do with me wanting him to succeed because he's a genuine yiddo. I like him as a player and as a person & pundit, he comes across very well too. I know some will say this is a bit 'Dawsony' where we love him because of his personality more than his ability, but Townsend is still so young and fast and coachable. I hope he gets a season to prove this and doesn't go off to QPR as the ITK suggests.

I can see the appeal of selling Townsend, but a big part of me thinks he might turn out to be more of a Rahem Sterling than the Routledge that many here presume he will.

Perhaps. But a lot of people discuss Andros like he's an up and coming youngster. He's not. He's 23 now. He will get better, but I think the glass ceiling is a little lower than what other people think.

The sensitivity is that Sandro is going to saints, just nobody has told him yet and nobody is volunteering to tell the beast

What has JJ said about Martial?
