Vertonghen, Musacchio, Fazio, Dier is better than Vertonghen, Kaboul, Chiriches, Dier?

Prove it.

No transfer move can ever be proven to be "better" before it even happens. Whether or not it can be speculated to be better is the reason scouts even exist, and people weigh in with their opinions on transfer forums. And it is my opinion, that yes such that former slew would be better than the latter.

Really?
Notwithstanding what we saw today?

By that, I mean certain players re-finding their form, being given a second chance and an injection of faith.

Sometimes I think we just want change for change's sake.

No I don't mean that at all, where you getting that from? Its pretty clear that some arn't in his plans. I mean if that's what Pochettino wants...particularly MS etc

You don't think he's earning the right for some to trust his judgememt?

Today's performance by Lamela, Chadli, and Vertonghen should make people think twice before they write off Paulinho. Paulinho still provided 6 goals and 2 assists in league play last season, and we've seen he's an absolute class player on top form. Yes, he's not at his best currently and may not be a perfect fit for Poch's system, but let's not judge him based on last Thursday, as Vertonghen was equally as poor and looked sensational today.

A valid point, but they key difference is as you point out, that we knew beforehand that both Lamela and Vertonghen would work very well within the system Poch has previously run before arriving. With Paulinho, I can't see any compatibility.

We bought Chiriches for only €9.5m. Roma seem to think he is the perfect Benatia replacement. I would not be surprised if we nearly double our investment on him, then bring in Musacchio as a like-for-like replacement. Then, with Dawson on the way out, we have a proper "big man" type to replace him with Fazio.

2 out and 2 in seems the most likely for me, and we would be upgrading on both players.

If we're confident that Kaboul can stay fit, I don't see that replacing him is necessary. We definitely need to bring in a CB still, but do we need two who would both expect to start a fair number of games?

Happy with the Schneiderlin news. If I had to pick one player to upgrade today I'd probably say Bentaleb. Don't get me wrong, he was still very good, but he did misplace a few passes. Not a lot would get past Schneiderlin and Capoue!

Ok, explain your reasoning, tell me why Musacchio and Fazio a re better.
Maybe because Musacchio and Fazio have been playing at an exceptionally high level in Spain, while Chiriches has one mediocre EPL season and struggles with injuries, and Kaboul has ranged between average and awful for over two years now (and his contract is running down to boot)? The only advantage Kaboul and Chiriches have over MM and FF is Premier League experience, and I trust Poch to have a pretty good idea of what a CB needs in both leagues seeing as he has coached in both and played in one.

Going by twitter he's on the bench because of a minor injury sustained in the EL game on thursday. Wouldn't read too much into it.

If he wasn't in the team at all i was going to be optimistic that maybe we could sort out the transfer....sadly i just think the 3rd party thing will scupper this deal.

Yet they are playing a CB that limped off injured in the same game (Gabriel). I also find it hard to believe that they are resting him for a Europa League game, that they are 3-0 up on agg, against a kazakhstani team, that they are playing at home.

Given our tolerance to injuries in this department, 5 is better than 4. Also, the 5 are better than the 4.

The 5th is Kaboul, as he's staying. Why leave that out?
