This is going to be one of the most almighty examples of player power I think we'll have ever seen. Even Beckham went on Ferguson's terms, not his own. Same for Stam (though Fergie admitted his mistake) and Van Nistelrooy (also probably a mistake). Rooney and his agent will dictate this, he'll end up where he wants to be and earn a hell of a lot because of it. He's 25, he is at an age where he can afford to stay at United for 18 more months, much like Campbell did with us, and still be in his prime and able to choose whoever he wants to play for. There is no way Ferguson will bench him for 18 months.

If they sell him it will be interesting to see how much of the cash old bacon face actually gets to spend. Wouldn't be surprised if he only got about half of it from the Yanks.

What a way for Rooney to shit on the club that made him the footballer he now is. Only in March he was talking about wanting to sign a contract for life at United and it turns out he's wanted to leave since the offseason. Fergie looks absolutely gutted giving that interview.

It would be the ultimate act of betrayal if Rooney were to sign for City, and I really hope that if he ends up leaving, he joins a team abroad

Agree with you ever (where the frog have you been lately?). United deserve a royal shafting and this might just be it. I hope he leaves on a free in 18 months, I hope that it's abroad and I hope that this is the beginning of the end for United.

no problems with untied, sure theyve taken a few of our top players, but they always pay over the odds for them which seems to have helped us in the long run

For the apparent £160,000 a week he is demanding i'm not even sure I'd want him

I'm not feeling sorry for United, I was simply commenting on what a fucking prick Rooney (even though it's no surprise anymore) is for screwing over the team that made him a superstar. Of course I still want Man Utd to get fucked and shat on.

I hope he leaves for peanuts and if possible on a free, but to a foreign team and not City.

I'm astounded at Fergie's press conference. He despises the press and all of a sudden holds one that would seem to be very frank and open. His display of hurt and general mystification as to why Rooney (anyone!) would want to leave Utd will play very well with the fans and has put the ball firmly into Rooney's court to explain his actions. All in all, nicely played for a pretty sh!t situation for the club.

I'm not sure what Rooney does now though. I can't believe he'll completely trash whatever is left of his reputation and sign for Citeh. Chel$ki is possible beyond which I can't see anyone else in the PL. As to La Liga - does he really want to live abroad? I can;t see him picking up the language and fitting in. Coleen's career is in the UK and she would struggle to maintain it from Spain (should she want to?).

Overall, I'm amazed at his position - his head is completly screwed (well done agents) and I don't believe he has very many desirable exits. What goes around comes around and Mr Rooney deserves all the bile that will inevitably come his way.

I dont think it will be that hard for him to settle if its Real. Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, Diarra, Carvalho and Mourinho himself sure all could help him at the beginning, all of them speak english and know the difference between England and Spain. He wouldnt have so much pressure to learn the language than lets say another team with less english influence.

Coleen would be the bigger problem i would guess, cant see her giving up her career and cant see her allowing him living alone in madrid after what happened.

It's not the transfer fee which will be a problem for any relatively big club, it will be the sickeningly high wages that will cause problems as his agents are reportedly asking for £160,000 to £250,000 a week
