Rooney scored just 1 goal from open play in the last 21 games and it was a simple tap-in in an international game. He hasn't scored for United from open play since March, nearly for 7 months.

According to a paper he can use the Webster ruliong and buy out the remaining time on his current contract for £5M only.

I'm sure Levy would loan it to him as say a signing on fee ;-)

Given the Webster thing, they pretty much have to sell him in Jan if he won't sign a new contract. Who will buy him and pay his wages? I doubt the Spanish clubs would pay what he wants, I doubt he would do very well in Spain surrounded by all those foreigners (maybe his great mate Ronaldo can translate for him).

Chelsea might take him and be able to pay, but I bet Man City would pay more. And the Glazers are only in this business for money, I think they would just take the biggest offer. Rooney might not agree to go there, though. The smart thing for Rooney to do (not that he seems particularly smart) would be to refuse any sale.

So the lovely scenario might be that they can't actually sell him in January, and he buggers off for essentially free (5M is more or less free for those guys) next summer. Without the transfer fee he can probably negociate a ridiculous salary. That will leave the alread debt-laddened ManU even worse off, with no funds and no real stars below 30...

I thought you can only do this in order to go to a club in another country

When Ronaldo went to Real someone apparently ITK told me that him and Rooney were good friends and Rooney could follow a year or two down the line. By all accounts Ronaldo is enjoying life in Madrid and the two of them keep in touch, Rooney can see that Utd are a club in decline and that Real are on the rise, also I can't see United selling him to City so I'd back Real out of all the options.
I don't actually think money it's just about money for Rooney, sure he wants big money and he wouldn't play for our wages (the greedy little shit) but it wasn't just money that took him to United it was ambition, of course if he goes to City for half a million a week I'll accept that I'm wrong.

The problem with going to Real is that he'd become the latest big money signing they make who is just not good enough to shift Higuain out of the first team.

Ronaldo got Rooney deliberately sent off? When? I remember him pointing out to a referee that Rooney had deliberately stamped on his team mates bollocks, if that's what you mean?

Besides, friends clash all the time. My best mate since the crib is, if memory serves correctly, also the first person to swing a punch at me.

Good post. Squeaky bum time for the MU board.

The really confusing thing is that City is his only realistic destination but with the Eufa fair play rules I don't know what they'd have to do to pay his wages and be allowed in European competion.

I hope this means SAF benches him or worse when we go to Old Trafford.
That is about as likely to be the only relevane this has to Spurs.

Wow, Now, jokes aside, would you deal a part exchange deal for him and say offload Defoe (when fit) to United as part of the deal??

I thought it was all paper talk, but it looks like it's true. I doubt they'll sell him to someone in the Premiership. Aren't Harry and Fergie good friends though?
