A good decision that represents what people keep saying they want to happen, ie Levy being less involved, so I'm excited to read how it's still seen as a negative.
I think the only negative for me is this guys limited football back ground, seems another money man administrator as opposed to a football man who can come up with a strategy to run the club to be as successful on the pitch as it is off the pitch. Time will tell though and hope he is a huge success.

There's good reason to be doubtful. We heard the same story about Levy stepping away from football matters when Paratici came in but it didn't play out that way. He can't help himself.

Let's hope that it actually happens this time, and I'm cautiously optimistic about this news, but I'll believe that Levy is less involved when I see it.

This guy is above the DOF though, which means Paratici or whoever his replacement is will be reporting to him and not Levy. The problem was Paratici was still having to go to Levy. I get the pessimism and only time will tell, but I think this is a bigger sign Levy may well be stepping aside or at least relinquishing some control.

The optimist in me thinks that Levy has realised that he will be under even more scrutiny if he doesn't do something like this and knows that he needs to appease some people so that his position isn't under threat.

Wow.

Taking charge of "all footballing departments" sounds pretty significant...

I'd assume Paratici is going soon and Levy is now (hopefully) fully stepping back for footballing decisions?!

I guess Scott Munn would now be heavily involved with appointing our next manager.

Daniel Levy, Chairman: “Scott has a unique and broad experience of running sporting organisations at the highest level and will take responsibility for the leadership and management of our football activities to instil best practice both on and off the pitch.”
Just hope that means he's leaving everything to do with the football side and doesn't involve him in anything but allotting a budget each season.

I think this must have been in the works for a while, jobs at that level are not filled quickly so must have been a lengthy process to find Scott Munn

I have a tiny hope that although it might not affect how much money we have to spend in the transfer market, what we spend it on isn’t decided by Levy anymore. If we want to blow it all on one or two players rather than 5 that is the director of football and Munns decision. It’s a tiny hope but I have gotta hang on to something.

By and large he has done a decent job of raising our status as a regular top 6 team whilst also greatly improving the business infrastructure and marketing assets. He's done a lot of the hard work and I just don't see him be willing to hand that all over to someone else who may take the glory that comes with winning trophies. Hence my suggestion he remain as Chairman and appoint a CEO for football matters.
I posted this Wednesday and today we appoint Scott Munn as Chief Football Officer - who says Levy doesn't read SC - lol.

I think that's a pretty fair assumption. He's backed himself into a corner with the fans and had to do something. As I said, I won't read too much into it for now, we're even making assumptions as to what his role within his role will be..........let's see what else happens and then take a look at transfer business for two or three windows before we start congratulating Levy on his 'masterstroke' :D

He's just a general sports administrator ceo money man type type..

"Scott, former City Football Group Executive, has extensive experience within sporting having started his career with the Sydney Organising Committee for the 2000 Olympic Games and then transitioning into the National Rugby League, before joining the Australia Football League. Scott joined Melbourne City FC as Chief Executive Officer in 2010. In 2019 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of City Football Group China."

"Scott transitioned to a position within the commercial operations of the National Rugby League (NRL), before joining Australia’s established code, the Australia Football League (AFL). While with the AFL, Scott contributed to the expansion of a second team into the competition in Queensland, the Gold Coast Suns. Scott was installed as Melbourne City FC Chief Executive Officer in the Club’s inaugural year in 2010, and in nine years with the Club he drove substantial growth across the sporting and commercial arms of the organisation, with ever improving results of the field, including the men’s first ever silverware in 2016 and back-to-back Championships for the women’s team. In 2019, he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of City Football Group (CFG) China, and now oversees all of CFG’s operations in China."

Hopefully he knows how to work constructively with people and set up proper structures within said organisation. A-league is pretty small time, his experience with the City group might at least got him some exposure to football people outside of Australia.
Levy is fooling us all he is really only in charge of Rugby and American football then 🤣😜

Typed Scott Munn in bing search and top two were Scott Munn funerals and Scott Munn funeral directors, thought it was very fitting considering the state of the club

The pessimist in me suggests the appointment is little more than a 'human shield' with which to protect Levy. Lets hope though that at long last Levy has finally relinquished himself from all footballing activities.

Wonder if there's any link with our pre season going to Australia.
You'd think Postecoglou becomes more likely with their history together.

Exactly.

We heard he was stepping away from transfers and that would be Paratici's remit.

Then last summer the Spence saga showed that he is still very much involved. He led the Porro transfer too.

I'm sure Munn isn't someone who will come in and just be a puppet. But if Levy starts telling him how he wants him to do the footballing job and the board start to make their opinions known on which player we should be signing then we won't get far. It'll be more of the same.

We need to be hearing that we baulk on players because Munn and our new DOF don't believe it is the right call, and only them.

Do we know what that history is?

I see people being pessimistic on this and I get it, but this is a big deal. This isn't A DOF who reports to Levy, the DOF will report to Munn. Of course we'll have to wait and see but there's no dotted line now for the football staff.
