Naughton is just OK as a player.
I don't want OK players in our squad. Recently he has been a little bit better than OK but our next game is away v City.

Lennon as a attacking right back.

He's very good with his defensive duties so how does that grab you?

He has improved, and he is a much better player than people make him out to be. But I think once Walker comes back and when Yedlin arrives next season it will spell the end of Naughton's spurs career.

Him and Danny Rose have had very similar careers for us - they're both berated by our own supporters, yet they have both dramatically improved and proved a lot of people wrong recently. However Naughton is 25-26, so I don't think he will improve that much in the future. I think his current ability is his peak. We will be better off with yedlin as Walker's under study - but Naughton has come further than I ever anticipated he would.

He genuinely did not do well yesterday before he got injured. Did everyone miss the ball that went across the face that he only kicked fresh air??

There's a danger going overboard with some of this chaps.

And there are still questions about his positional sense as far as I'm concerned, for sure, but his overall game and composure has massively improved. Fair play to the lad.

I at least feel comfortable when he's on the field now.

Let's see if the same type of transformation is possible with chiri...

As BC says, he had the composure to recover and make the block - a lot of the time players will cock up, they're only human, but it's the effort they make to rectify the mess it made and he clearly has the right attitude.

Sure, he's never going to be a world beater, likely won't even get a proper England cap in his career, but he is a hard working lad who i believe can still improve, which i wouldn't have believed eighteen months ago.

For my money, he's very much in the same camp as Kane & Mason - players who are never going to set the pitch alight but who have shown that they are prepared to work hard and earn their place and, when the opportunity is presented to them, give it everything they've got. Superb squad options, ultimately, who are useful for when you need to rest first teamers and a viable alternative when the squad need rotating due to form etc.

Poch will play Dier there until Walker/Naughton are back.

I came in to this thread and was going to post the same. Lennon is capable of defensive duties as he used to team up with the younger Walker who woud bomb on with Lennon dropping, and then teaming up when on the back foot.

I don't think Lennon should debut as RB away against City.

I have heard others suggest he would be more effective centrally. He is a talented footballer who has coasted along. I can't see him wanting to change that. I was very surprised (if the ITK is correct) he refused to move in the summer.

No, 'genuinely not doing well' was Soton last season. He has improved.

Also there's no 'danger' of anything, recgonising a players improvement, no matter how slight, is all good.

He has improved, but he didn't play well on Sunday. Pretty simple.

I am in complete agreement on this. Would like to see Poch try this during our next Europe game. Don't see much risk in doing so against pretty weak opponents. Ultimately, Lennon could shine in this role for a team that likes to play a back three with wing backs. But, that ain't us.

It seems preferable to attempting to convert him into a left wing forward.
It's funny how us wee fans can see this as a possibility, but the manager probably won't or can't. then again, maybe he has but Lennon has put the kibosh on the idea. But agree, if the kid has any sense at all and cares about his future, he should look no further than Valancia for Man U... he converted to a RB and did pretty good, all things considered.

I'd give Chiriches a go at right back. In the Europa League or the league cup at least.

Just to see if he'll stop being insane. Young centre back often have to "qualify" by playing as a side back first, and I wouldn't let Vlad near the centre of our defence before he has proven himself again.

Yeah I guess when you're as bad as he is, air-kicking a dangerous cross the face of the goal and shanking a cross into row z is about as good as you can hope for.

He was in a decent enough position to cut out a tap in heading for the soton player(mane?). The cross ended up being not very good and behind bothe players but still found it's way to mane and he did well to cut out the shot.

Dunno. Lennon couldnt play a deep cross if his life depended on it. The only ones he can manage are floaters and drag backs from the byline. Also his only real defensive contributions are tracking runners. He doesn't really put in a tackle or go shoulder to shoulder.
