Ironically we are glad he's back in the fold! Not that long ago, so many of us were calling for his cull and wanted him nowhere near the squad. Perhaps it's a reflection of how dire we are now. We are clutching at straws and hoping to float and reach the shores!

To be fair, Naughton has a great season until his injury (maybe bar his handball V.S. WHU), Same as Rose.

However bad we are/become I will never celebrate the return of a player like Kyle N

It's exactly this standard of player that has got us to this point of lower mid table blandness, at best. No thanks, we should be aiming for better quality than this

Anyone who isn't blind could see that Naughton was excellent while Walker was out last season.

IMO As a last resort maybe but not as backup for 9 months if your club wants to challenge for 4th
We've been very unfortunate with Walker's situation. We can't buy 2 top-quality players for every position in case someone gets a rare, long-term injury.

As a side point, we're not challenging for 4th :)

Not much appreciation in that post - you in the right thread?

You wana give him a chance at having a proper run in his preferred position - somewhere he has actually impressed the last good few times he has played there?

Oon is better than Dyer at RB imo.
But maybe Kaboom at RB with Fats and Verts in the centre might be an idea.
With the current selection lottery it's only a matter of time.

kaboul was a shit right back 4-5 years ago... Dread to think what he'd be like now.

Naughton has been one of the best RBs in the Prem since the start of 2014 (or whenever Walker was injured). He's not the greatest attacking threat but he gets forward (and is intelligent when he does), doesn't get beat often in defense, and works hard.

He's more than good enough as a backup and we need him back desperately. I like Dier but he is out of position and like I've said since he was exposed repeatedly by Remy vs QPR, he is not good enough as an EPL RB. I would like to see a CB sold in winter thus allowing Eric to be able to play his natural position.

No, it's a reflection of how much he improved once he got the chance to play regularly in his natural favoured position.

Why not?

Who's back-up RB for Man United? Jones? Smalling? Poor players who are even worse playing at full back.

Or Arsenal? Chambers? The press have been wanking themselves off silly to him but personally I think he's looked pretty shit, been personally responsible for several goals and been booked every single game he's played.

Or Liverpool? I have no idea who their back-up RB even is.

Chelsea and City I don't count as they have infinite resources.

No-one above is particularly better than Naughton, I'd suggest.

Who would you like to have as our back-up RB in place of Naughton?

He wasn't that good... Solid and cut out the blatant errors but his man still got past him far too easily in far too many matches.

I'll be disappointed if he comes back in to be honest, nothing against him but to me it is absolutely obvious that if you play inverted wide men then he isn't going to consistently provide the width and overlap on the right hand side from fullback than is then needed. His style requires him to just provide solid back up 'Corluka style' to a winger in front of him. If we want to play the way Poch has set us up then we need to find alternatives, that aren't Dier or Naughton at right back.
