No LB’s but 3 RB’s.... Michael Keane who’s awful somehow still makes the squad and Mings is very overrated. Lewis Dunk is better than both

And Mount instead of Alli, Grealish and Maddison???
Will be interesting to see how Kalvin Phillips plays if he gets minutes.

Foden & Greenwood are exciting talents, good that they got called up

Wingers and strikers look good but the midfield is average and defence doesn’t look good

If France had a third/C Team they would beat this England team

Would have liked to see white given a chance instead of Micheal Keane who has shown every game he has played at international level that he is out of his depth.

Can fully understand Alli not being in the squad. Given his form & injures over past 8/9 months doesn't deserve to be.

Alli still a better player than Mount who’s imo overrated

They should've chosen DaSilva or Henry and at least given a proper LB with ability a run out. Even if it's on the bench initially. The age groups have planned poorly for this, possibly because they initially thought Sessegnon was going to be the guy but his conversion rightly or wrongly has put pay to him being an obvious LB choice for England.

Chilwell, Rose then I struggle to think of another english left back. Bertrand? Who else is there. Luke Shaw I guess

Williams or Saka would have been my preference if he wasn't going to pick an experienced left back.

Sessegnon and Cirkin have both got a great chance if either can force their way into the Spurs side.

I'm not sure whether Cirkin's eligible or not. He's played for England at some youth levesl, but that's just based on residency rather than the nationality rules used for the older age groups and senior teams (e.g. Giggs played for England at that level but was only eligible to represent Wales). He was born in Dublin so he'd need to have a parent or grandparent who was born in England.

Qualified for latvia as well apparently.

I don’t get the continued ignoring of Grealish - terrific footballer who has displayed more leadership, grit and resilience on the pitch than a lot of the players being picked ahead of him. The cynic in me wonders if Southgate is doing a potential suitor a favour in unsettling him to push for a move to a Manchester team that wears red. That’s probably conspiracy theorist nonsense but I can’t believe for a second that Grealish would still be omitted if he played for a top 6 team the way he’s played for a Villa team who he’s had to drag across the line for the past 2 seasons.

But he will play less. Surely Gareth wouldn't want that

Both of them are too experienced ahead of a European championships next summer though. I'd rather have a look at Williams. He's a proper left back playing with the pressure of playing at a top club. If he isn't going to get a chance now though it is a bit short sighted.

Chilwell injured
Rose put out to pasture
Shaw not good enough
Williams promising but presumably not considered ready, whatever that means
Saka has been good at LB but more LWB than orthodox LB.

Basically look behind Chilwell and there's nothing there atm. It used to be a position of real strength and now the depth is pretty awful. That still doesn't excuse not having a LB, or if I see right not a single left footed defender period, that's just bonkers.

I thought Shaw was a pretty good left back to be honest, it seems more his mentality that lets him down at times.

Would have picked Williams as well as gotta have proper left backs in squads, otherwise this takes me back to those nightmare times under Keegan when we kept playing Phil Neville there and no left side in front of him either in a 4-4-2! ????

Maybe, but given the numbers required to sign him he would surely still start >30 games across all competitions and that would include some Champs League games. That wouldn’t be much less than he plays for Villa and would leave him fresher for international duty.

Like I said, probably conspiracy theorist nonsense but if he moves clubs and suddenly gets selected something stinks.

I'd bet my life that if he moves to a top 6 club, he'll make it into the next England squad.

Will Southgate have the guts to chuck Maguire out of the squad now that he has been found guilty?

Has to. Sterling got dropped for less. If he doesn't drop Maguire then the FA has to step in because the media attention his presence would bring onto the team will be disruptive.

Well done Gareth, give your backing to a player based solely on his side of the story hours before he's found guilty of assaulting police.

Why not just wait? All these commentators saying "if he's found to have done something wrong". He has been found to have done something wrong. He's guilty.

Until and unless that changes, treat him accordingly.
