So Dion, what's your verdict?

"Well John, The defence has gotta do better, the midfield has gotta do better, and the forwards have gotta score more goals. Simple as that."

Thanks Dion. FFS.

Not wrong though is he 😂

I like Dublin on tv but I’m not sure he’s good enough as a Co commentator.

Southgate is simply awful. His timing is good, I'll give him that. Arrived just as several players peaked but eh. He is with Ingerlund what he was with Boro. Unadulterated beige. If he's lucky the Saudi league might offer him a gig after Ingerlund but otherwise...

Yup, think he’ll bail after the next major tournament and go over there, just can’t see him managing a team in the PL

I hate watching England under Southgate. All that talent wasted on a manager who is always safety first. The sooner he leaves the better. He's Championship level at best. :banghead:

I found myself supporting Malta by the second half, hoping they'd score and thinking they deserved a goal.
That's what Southgate and his boring football has done to me FFS.

My god we were shite.

Shoulda given the FK to Kane
To be fair, my lad said that.
Even though we used to take the piss out of Kane's free kicks, he said it was a split of the Brentford one.

Then he got bored and started re-watching The Boys on his phone.

The two best managers England have had in the last 25 years were Venables and Hoddle, England would have absolutely smashed it if the players available now were available to them.

I remember last time I came in this thread there were still people that supported Southgate. Really is the number 1 way to know that someone hasn’t got a single clue about football.

Conor Gallagher had become the new Mason Mount as far as Southgate is concerned. Runs around a lot appearing to look busy but has no real creativity or positive productive input in this team and for Chelsea and gets picked time after time, like Mount did for England and Chelsea, add Henderson into the mix and what have you got. A bland blanket of suffocating unproductive sideways passing stodge which is absolutely necessary according to Southgate.

I think Southgate has come in for criticism in the past that is excessive, but last night was absolutely woeful. Everyone taking the safe and easy option. Then occasionally we went up through the gears and cut them open with ease, which makes me ask why we didn't do more of it and that has to be down to the manager.

I think lots of fans overestimate the England squad because they are in the PL but last night was definitely less than the sum of their parts.

Hopefully Southgate goes after another failed major trophy attempt and Guardiola comes in to take us to the World Cup. I reckon there's a chance this happens, but maybe not as early as next season. I can't for the life of me think where Pep would go next but I reckon he likes England and the job would appeal to him weirdly enough. I'm not too sure about Graham Potter as an alternative - but Steve Cooper would be decent upgrade on Southgate.

For all the stick England get, I'm currently watching the Wales game on iPlayer and whilst I've only been watching for 15 mins or so, they are making England look like world beaters. All the Welsh lads look shattered for some reason.

Imagine Ange on the touchline, he would have been losing his mind watching that shite 😂

What do you think this post says about you?
I’d say it says that I believe the people that support the idea of Southgate continuing as England manager are clueless about football. Doesn’t say a whole lot more than that really does it…

Fans have never been less interested in watching England play than under him, it’s absolutely awful football. He consistently makes bizarre squad and team selections, hasn’t blooded anywhere near enough of the young defensive talent we have during his tenure (Tomori, Guehi etc) because of his obsession with Maguire. He also made one of the absolute dumbest tactical decisions in a European final sitting back and defending a 1-0 lead conceding possession and giving time and space to a midfield that had 3 of the worlds best technical ball playing midfielders in Verratti, Jorginho and Barella. I’ve been waiting on his sacking ever since that day and it’s not got any better under him since. We would have already won something if we had a manager that was somewhat competent. I will genuinely cheer when he is removed from his post and I’d prefer to go back to Roy Hodgson before seeing him as England manager again, I believe he’s nowhere near the required standard and has consistently shown it over the course of 7 years.
