Personally can’t wait for Southgate to leave. He’s got a golden generation and is wasting it. Crap football to watch and doesn’t pick players on form. Maguire shouldn’t be anywhere near this team on present form. Imagine what Potter could do with this squad.

Who are these golden generation players? Foden and Kane. Who else?

Pope isn't exactly selling himself as a potential number one with all these misplaced passes.
Ball at his feet has never been Pope’s strength.
Pickford significantly better in that department.
Pope much better when the ball is coming at him.

I think this is a question that we are obsessed with in England but dont see it else where

The 2008 euros Spain team was built on Senna as their holding piece
The 2010 world cup winners had capdevilia
The 2014 Word cup winners had start Kramer in the final, albeit he played 32 mins after an injury, not to mention a geriatric Klose
The 2018 world cup winners had Pavard as the number 1 choice in RB playing for stuttgart with a handful of caps with Hernandez on the other side with a few and Nzonzi coming off the bench

I think you have to go for the best you have in that position. I also think Steve Holland, who does the tactics is clearly setting up england to emulate conte's 352/342 system. Sessegnon knows the system better than most

I was thinking of the mental side of the game. He doesn't seem particularly confident and admits himself that he is still learning the role. International football can be pretty daunting for young players. Saka looked a bit overwhelmed in his first cap. To be fair he got over it pretty quickly in the next couple of games.

This is just too safe by us... how many defensive players do we need.
Southgate has struggled for a while trying to play a back 4.
He’s almost rewound 2 years, going back to Walker as a third CB.
It does look more secure but clearly impacts us going forwards.
Pretty tells the front 3 to play up by themselves.

Change it substantially?

I hope you are joking, his attitude is terrible. Trying to play out from the back and he walks away back to the ball meaning one less option for a pass
Respectfully disagree. He's been first to a few balls and has tried to push forwards.

Its not very scintillating overall though. Being polite.
